747-300 Trijet

Recommended Posts

Just coming back to the original issue a bit: an interesting note about the larger Trijet airliners is the fact that the wings are placed further back on the fuselage thus allowing much more centrally located exit doors which in turn means that you can get pax on and off a lot more quickly and efficiently. My understanding is that this fact alone can shorten each turn around cycle by as much as 20 to 30 minutes. Add that up over the expected life span of an airliner! The more pax the more this becomes an issue so for a 747 Trijet this would have been a mild mindbender for Boeing at the time. The same theory would apply to a hypothetical A380 Trijet, the savings in turn around time even more dramatic! Now that would truly be an impressive trijet. I suspect that Airbus had a very close look at a possible Trijet configuration for the A380, sometime in its early drawing board stage.Konrad
