Right engine not starting

Featured Replies

Hi,left engine starts okay, but the right refuses.Any ideas anyone.thanks.robin. :-(

Hi Robin, Start the right engine only when startup procedure is completely finished for the left. Be sure both packs are off and check pneumatic pressure in both circuits is nominal (at least 25-30 PSI)If that doesn't solve your problem, post a picture of the panel and the overhead during the procedure.Regards, Laurent Crenier_____________________________PIC Panel co-designer

"left engine starts okay, but the right refuses.Any ideas anyone.thanks."Are your Bleed Isolation switches set correctly, Robin? Also, I'm wondering which engine you are starting first? Sometimes difficulties arise when starting a second engine in real life (although I doubt that PIC would simulate faulty bleed valve position-sensing microswitches???).When the start switch is selected to GND, a command is sent to both engine bleed air valves to close them (so that the APU bleed air will be sent to the engine starter motors and not to the main engine cores). If the already-started engine bleed valve closes when the start switch is selected to GND, but the position microswitch in the bleed valve is faulty (indicating that it is not closed), the APU bleed valve will not be allowed to open (by airplane logic). This means that no APU air will be able to get to the left engine starter. This situation can be a trap for engineers. They think that the start problem is due to a fault with the engine being started, but it really a faulty microswitch on the already running engine.767's have an interesting bleed setup. APU and engine bleed air is not allowed to mix.Cheers.Ian.

Ian,Terry is drinking Canada dry...please help ;-)Rob.

.....>My father was never home, he was always drinking booze. He saw a sign saying DRINK CANADA DRY. So he went up there<........ :-lolIan drinks XXXX me thinks....Cheers and have fun

"Terry is drinking Canada dry...please help"Er.... Time to buy some shares in a few Canadian brewing companies I think, Rob :-) Or are we talking about water here? (I thought the St Lawrence Seaway was looking a little lower than normal when I flew past it today). :-PAnyway, getting back to bleed air.... I've just had a look at the wiring diagrams for engine and APU bleed valve control... and they seem to be at odds with what I said in my previous message. I think the real pilots/engineers should ignore my last message until I have sorted this mess out (I was quoting someone else at the time. That's the trouble when you haven't had formal training on an aircraft type.... you tend to believe what you are told by the so-called experts). :-(Back to the books!Cheers.Ian.

Thanks for your replys both Ian and Laurent. According to the engine start procedure the normal sequence is right then left, which I follow.Normally I do a "cold & dark start" starting with external power, switching to the APU 5 minutes before pushback (Europe) using the time inbetween for dispatch and info before flying on the net. Engine start occurs after pushback.I will post the situation when it happens again.Thanks,robin:-)
