Any Typical Flights?

Featured Replies

I use the PIC panel on an IADG B752, using a similar merge to that for Lee's POSKY B763. I kind of like the thought of shorter flights, which (maybe) a B752 might do more realistically. Anyone want to list their favorite short flights for PIC?DL does both B752 and B763 flights from DEN (my home) to SLC daily, about 1 hour. I only wish that I could get as far away as the east coast on a series of short flight realistically, however I expect the truth is a real airline pilot would just return to the hub airport.Bruce.BJC (Jeffco, CO).

I don't worry too much about flying actual routes that a 767 might fly. Just don't have the time unfortunately. This means that I always fly shorter routes. My favorites lately are flying between the islands in the Caribbean/Bahamas. San Juan, PR to Princess Julianna is a short 25 minute or so flight. The landing is also interesting as the runway is fairly short. The nice thing about the Caribbean is that most of the islands have runways long enough for the 767 so there are alot of possibilities and they are relatively close together which makes for short flights. Nice when you only have an hour or so to fly.

BA uses the 757 on EGLL-EHAM still (40 min flight)They are replacing them with Airbuses I believe though.RegardsTim

BA also uses the 767 on lots of short European routes, but they're phasing out the 757s to replace them with Airbuses. I've flown lots of times on a 763 from EGLL to Frankfurt and Dusseldorf. As far as the 757 goes, on the Boeing website they mention that airlines use them for short 70 mile trips to intercontinental routes. I wonder what the 70 mile one is?Cheers,Gosta.

Continental Airlines has service from Newark to Shannon/Dublin; usually done in a 767-400ER. I've taken this flight a number of times; the last time there was mechanical trouble and they substituted a 757. Shannon to Dublin isn't more than 70 miles.

Not too sure on the routings... but I'm pretty sure some of the Chinese operators have B757's on some stupidly short routes. Routes such as Guangzhou - Macau come to mind.

KLM used for a while 767s on busy flights to fly from London to Amsterdam. I'm not ure whether they still do it.A bit off topics, but BA used 777 from EGLL to LFPG, when they introduced the 777. That was for crew training.Air France used 744 from Nice to Paris in the morning flight, for the same reason, crew training.Regards,Francois

Northwest 757 flight between CYYZ-KDTW (Toronot-Detriot) about 280nm trip. Here is a challenge for you Try climbing to FL330/FL310 on this leg ;-)Best,Haroon

Actually, Shannon to Dublin is a bit further than 70 miles (138, to be exact, see http://www.12travel.com/ie/information/distance_miles.html ). But I've found one ridiculously short scheduled flight - EDDK to EDDL, operated by Deutsche BA, using a 737. This is only about 20-30 miles, so you can easily get there quicker by car... As they only operate this flight once a week on Saturday evenings, I think it's a repositioning flight. This is frequently done by other airlines on an unscheduled basis, as there's a night curfew at EDDL, so anyone arriving too late will be diverted to EDDK (It happened to me a few times). So, presumably, they're going to fly the plane back to EDDL first thing in the morning to resume normal operations.Cheers,Gosta.

I jumpseated KMEM-KOAK on a DC-10 one morning, and in the evening, it was on a A-300. But the interesting thing was on the way back, it was routed KOAK-KSFO-KMEM. We flew empty from KOAK-KSFO. I sat in the crew check seat right behind the Pedestal. We took off on RWY 29, and I may be wrong, but it looked like we didnt use but maybe 2000-3000 ft of that runway. It was VFR so we made a climbing right turn after departure up to 5000 if I remember correctly. You could see the whole bay. It was an awesome sight. When we were heading south towards the San Mateo Bridge ( i think that's what its still called), we turned back in towards SFO for a visual for 28L. A 747-400 was in front of us, and about 3 nm from the runway, we side-stepped over to 28R. It was really interesting. After we landed, we had to taxi around Air Force One which was parked almost right in the taxiway, heading towards the old Pan Am sea-plane hanger, which is were FedEx has its operations now. We found out later that Bill was visiting Hillary at Stanford. I didnt see Monica though.... Ha Ha Anyways, it was really interesting flight to say the least.

Stumbled across a UPS 757 that runs Fort Wayne(KFWA?) to South Bend (KSBN) Indiana. For you 727 drivers, NW ran 727s from Kalamazoo (KAZO) to Lansing (KLAN). Timothy
