PIC on VATSIM - Cranbrook Radio Procedures..

Featured Replies

This is already posted on the Group Flight page at www.eleventhstreet.com/pic but I thought if I posted it here it might raise some eyebrows. This piece was written by Phillip Elchitz (yes we are related) who works at the Cranbrook airport. So here it is... Ian Elchitz CYWG----------------------------------CRANBROOK PROCEDURESCranbrook (CYXC) is an uncontrolled airport with a 24 hour flight service station. It has a mandatory frequency area which extends to 6000 feet and a five mile radius. Making contact with Cranbrook Flight Service is mandatory prior to entering the maneuvering area of the airfield (taxiways and runway environment.)Important: Cranbrook Radio does not issue take-off or landing clearances or taxi instructions, nor does the station provide traffic separation: just gives traffic, preferred runway and weather advisories. Therefore, don

and if you want to help expedite action, give it your best rate of climb through 14,000, another departure can't go until the preceding aircraft has reported through that altitude which is the MEA on V342 north of Lumby. In addition VFR departures in a high traffic situation at an airport like this with all the traffic wanting to go the same way would not be practical and would not likely be approved by center.Ian, what are Phillip's operating initals at work?

Denny,He doesn't work the FSS there, he's the executive director of the facility. So, I would imagine that his knowledge comes from speaking with pilots, the FSS crew, speaking with people like Dave Hazell, and of course listening to the FSS broadcasts from his office.Ian CYWG.

Ian,Are you in contact with the Vancouver FIR for ATC coverage for this event? I know that Edmonton is in the loop and ready for the event. Just curious as I may be controlling vs. flying. Thanks,Dan

Dan,Of course .We have a center and FSS lined up already.Hopefully some other good controllers from CZVR will show up to handle the people "transiting" to the Cranbrook area.Ian.

Great! I may be helping out in Edmonton or Calgary on a VFR position (tower, ground, clearance) but if I get out of that I'll definitely be flying.Regards,Dan
