September 19, 200223 yr Hello all.I will be participating on my first PIC on VATSIM this weekend, on the unofficially called "Canadian Short-Runways and PARs Adventure".I have been flying on VATSIM for some time, and the same goes for PIC. But I was wondering if there is a way I can see the other 767s like they are supposed to be, not like the very low-poly aircraft Squawk Box places on the screen. Is that possible? Is it the same thing as when flying multiplayer, you have to have your friend's aircraft installed so you can see it like it is?If so, can everyone post the airlines they will be flying, so we can all download the textures for some real nice screenshots?Myself, I will be flying the new, gorgeous Australian Airlines repaint by Ben Jones.
September 19, 200223 yr That's a good question. I'll be flying Shane Strong's version 3 Canadian Airlines "Proud Wings" livery. My callsign will be ACA3004.Squawkbox installs a whole bunch of CSL generic aircraft in to your aircraft folder. I'm not sure if you can change the 767 that is loaded by default or not. There is an updated CSL library at this website though:http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/seang1/csl/I think there is an updated 762 in there, but not a 763. Perhaps a post in the VATSIM forum would bring some answers? I find mutliplayer and VATSIM to be unstable at best and I count my blessings if I see any body, nevermind what they look like =) I think you are bang on though if you have the other pilots 767 installed and they/you both have Send and Received detailed info enabled you should see the proper 767.
September 20, 200223 yr There is also a program called 'Visual Information Platform' which provides more aircarft types and liveries.File name is 'vip2_ver15.zip' and if not available here, or for more information check outhttp://home.att.ne.jp/green/Jun02/JWS/index.htmlRgds
September 20, 200223 yr I checked out this web site. VERY interesting. I would like to discuss amoung the forum members in much more detail with a separate post but fear it is off-topic. Perhaps I will dare to do it anyway after things die down next week. As an AAL pilot, I am sure you can understand my interest as nearly all CSL files have no AAL liveries.More to come!
September 20, 200223 yr Be careful manipulating your local CSL. I seem to recall reading that this can result in others' CSL not working correctly (them seeing you as themselves). I've seen this failure mode of CSL quite a bit, and it can really kill your frame rate when you have a bunch of other POSKY 767s pop into view just as you're on final.I've been known to fly my own PIC/CSL merge! It ain't pretty, but I have no risk of bad frame rates with lots of traffic around.Lee Hetherington (KBOS)
September 22, 200223 yr I read through everything on that website. They point that "seeing you as themselves" problem out very clearly. Many times I have been asked why do I appear as a USAir livery. Actually it is a USAir 757 model that links to the USAir 767 I use in the aircraft selection. This is as close as I have been able to come and still have something better than that ugly green/white thing-a-ma-jig. I suppose it is not so bad as it has come to be my trademark, "The AAL327 that flys a USAir all the time."
