October 16, 200223 yr How do I program the FMC to fly an ARC with given DME from a VOR between given radials? Such as ones that position aircraft onto final approches. Many Thanks,
October 16, 200223 yr use place(vor name)radial(starting point IAF)distance from the radial.Entries might look like this as an example ,starting at the IAFykm160/10ykm180/10ykm200/10ykm220/10..... usually stoping at the LR to pick up the ILS course.another thing that helps with this is to enter a fix for the dme vor and then enter a /10 as for the example above ,and you will have a ten mile dme circle to place your waypoints around.here is a picture of one I did . The green line are the IAF and the LR you can enter these in the fix page also
October 16, 200223 yr This tutorial should help you:http://ftp.avsim.com/library/sendfile.php?DownloadID=19286
October 16, 200223 yr Great Question! This is a question that many have wondered and has been asked and discussed a few times already on the forum (search for "DME ARC"). They are certainly a lot of fun to fly and a lot of fun to program as well.Since you mention the FMC specifically we won't talk about the other methods like ROSE VOR or the FIX page.Basically you program the FMS using PBD method. For example, let's say we were flying the VOR/DME GPS-B into KMSO - Missoula, MT (I mention this because a few of us just flew this on Monday). edj.net/cgi-bin/echoplate.pl?NorthWest/MSO_vd_gB.GIFWe joined the ARC at OCEVO (which happened to be in the database) but I programmed it as a PBD waypoint by entering the following into the FMS:MSO214/16 /12000 (IAF OCEVO)MSO204/16 /12000MSO194/16 /12000MSO184/16 /12000MSO173/16 /12000 (DMFOX)MSO163/16 /9800AMSO155/13MSO155/10 /8100 (FAF STEVI)MSO155/6 /6500MSO155/1 (MAP MAJOS) MSO (for the miss)The result was a nice little DME ARC painted in MAP mode. I ended up flying it by hand though .Ian Elchitz CYWGEDIT: The other examples and the tutorial Jase posted are gold.
October 16, 200223 yr I don't think there is an OVERFLY mode. I'm not sure if this is standard on a BOEING or just not implemented in PIC. You have to create an artificial waypoint just beyond the waypoint you want to overfly.
October 16, 200223 yr That's right. However, in the FMC SID, STAR, and APP database (in the real aircraft) there are some "overfly" waypoints, but these are "hard-coded" and can't be programmed by the pilot (if I've understood correctly :-)).Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing
October 16, 200223 yr WOW - This is starting to look good! :-)You do enter the missed procedure route after the "RWYXX" waypoint right?
October 16, 200223 yr (Last one)You never have guess the PIC767 was released so long ago. Its amazing. I wonder what the PIC team is doing next!
October 17, 200223 yr Ian,Do we have any of these avalable on the download site? I can't remember any and don't have the link handy or would check it myself. As fun as they are to program, it is still nice having some of these available in your approaches folder for those last minute change in plans."The result was a nice little DME ARC painted in MAP mode. I ended up flying it by hand though" Now your bragging! LOLI agree strongly that the link Jase posted is gold.
October 17, 200223 yr Looking Good!Nice to see you got the computer to fly the ARC!Ian Elchitz CYWG- Now let's see you fly it without LNAV, the FMC, and MAP mode ;-)
October 17, 200223 yr Mike,I have not noticed any approaches with DME ARCS in them ready for download. I would imagine that if you could find IAP into KABQ and KFAT you would see them since both have some ARC procedures. If not - I would love to make some - I will see what is in store for me this evening, though I was planning on making a run up in the NE.As for your comments....>"The result was a nice little DME ARC painted in MAP mode. I >ended up flying it by hand though" Now your bragging! LOL Why yes, now that you mention it - I was...Exit Stage left... :-outta
