Time it takes to climb...!

Featured Replies

After switching back to the very original air/cfg files, i.e ones i havent tweaked! I am getting eratic climb times. For example, to climb to FL370 it takes me 32 minutes, GR WT of 130T....CLB 1. In real life it takes about 20 minutes given the same sterile wind conditions and CLB1. I had no altitude restrictions by ATC.Also cruise power is about 96% N1, yet looking at a collection of airliners.net photos it looks as though it should be around 86-92%max.Is it just me?Thikn I might go bak to my personal tweaks :>

Well, you might want to switch to full climb power.

LOL, unlike the real airlines. You trying to destroy my engines bud? BA use CLB2 and can get to FL370 within 13 minutes with no level off restrictions.

Yeah, but the thrust really gets up to CLB levels, with CLB1/2 still indicated, however PIC didn't model that in the patch for 2002.

Sorry I don't understand?

What he means is that certain airlines have an option that has the derated climb power gradually increase to be equal to full climb power as altitude increases. The thrust display will indicate CLB2 or CLB1 all the while. AA does not have that option on the 767 that we modelled. Thus you should switch back to full climb power above 12000ft.There was a thread that discussed this quite a whil back, maybe it's still in the archives.Regards,Wade

As you climb higher, CLB1 and or CLB2 will become the same as CLB thrust. This is modelled in PIC as far as I recall. CLB1/2 have their biggest impact at lower altitudes/warmer temps.Temperature (OAT) and wind speeds/direction will have a big impact (FS2k2) on your ability to climb, much like in real life. The only thing I can suggest is to monitor your OAT/TAT + winds as you climb and see if it is a High pressure area causing you delays in the climb. At 130tonnes, I routinely get 13-17 minutes climb to Fl370 or better....unless the OAT is relatively warm, then it can take longer. You will get better climb rates with a head wind. Also, try setting your VNAV CLB SPD to 290/.780 in the FMC and you will get better performance as well.I am sure someone with a better understanding of meteorology, temperature, and it's affects on climb performance will chime in here. Rob.

LOL!" am sure someone with a better understanding of meteorology, temperature, and it's affects on climb performance will chime in here."I'm only doing my JAA exams, and thoroughly enjoying learning the specifics of weather related to aviation, I don't need to be told all this, I take it into consideratio during my posts, Rob. Hence I clearly stated "Sterile" conditions.Let's not turn this into another battle. Call me arrogant but soon I should be up there for real in a real 767/757 and should never need to call upon yourself again, Rob.AS Wchafe said, the increase to full climb power is not modelled, contradicting what you said yourself, as it is a customers option to suit AA, and I didn't know this. This now answers my question.Conversation over. Thanks wade ;)

P.S ACA...you a real pilot? You seem to have this pattern of tying to correct the respected real pilots on the forum...e.g, rustyrob.

You don't have to be so rude yourself. Rob was just trying to help, and reading his posting I don't see him being rude to you.Lee Hetherington (KBED)

OBK,Rob was trying to help, you seem to be quite defensive and agressive. Cool down. :-)

Sorry if he WAS trying to be helpful but based on past times, there sometimes seems to be a pattern evolving.Like I said apologies but no need for the snark remark, considering i've just finishe 478 pages of met to get my ATPL, it wasn't really necessary. I know you didn't know that, but really, was there need to even consider the real facts of climate in a computer based simulator? I think not.

OBK,How was Rob to know that you've done all that work? BTW I do enjoy met as well, although I'm only on the PPL level right now.

Stratus...where you doing your PPL? In UK?

Canada :-) Just about ready to solo, but the weather's been horrible all week, had a few flights cancelled, we're trying to get out to the practice area and go over everything we've covered. Had a +TSSN in the forecast for today, didn't seem to have arrived. Oddest code I've ever seen. :-eek
