need help with getting spoliers to auto deploy

Featured Replies

Hi fellow PIC users I need some help with getting the spoilers to auto deploy upon the main wheels hitting the ground on landing. right now they will only deploy when I select the thrust reversers.also I use the PIC?POSKY merge supplied by Lee and I was wondering if any have you have tweaked the airfile at all to improve the flight dynamics (if in fact they need improving) could u please send me any edits u have made to the airfile and also the info on how to get the spoilers to auto deploy (yes I have armed them prior to landing!) to [email protected] thanks.

A/T off or on?

A/T off as I like to manually control my approach speed.

also I use the PIC?POSKY merge >supplied by Lee and I was wondering if any have you have >tweaked the airfile at all to improve the flight dynamics >(if in fact they need improving) Gooper, The Posky/PIC merge does not use Posky's airfile but PIC's. Why would they need improving? There is nothing wrong with them. Best Wishes and Happy Landings, Randy

The only solution that worked for ME (as it was the topic of hot debate and seems to only work for some) is to turn off both EEC switches on the pedestal during final approach. For some reason, turning off the ECC allows the spoilers to autodeploy on touchdown. Works for me every time!Good Luck!Jeff

I believe your throttles need to be idle for the spoilers to auto-deploy. EEC monkeys with your joystick inputs. You can use FSUIPC to more precisely calibrate your throttle axis so that this works all the time.J

Hey Jase,I agree that works for some people and is probably the root cause of the problem. I have, however, calibrated my throttles even adding a rather large null zone at the bottom and it still doesn't work. For me the EEC is the only thing I have found to work.Jeff

Actually, the EEC in PIC limits both max and minimum thrust. You can see this by opening the pedestal, hitting F1 and look at the thrust levers closely and you'll see them move a little bit forward. The auto-spoiler only works when the lever is in the ARM position and the thrust levers are at full idle. Thus, if the EEC is on, you never have idle thrust and the auto spoiler system won't work. The workaround? Either disengage the EECs on short final as mentionen above (but not very useful, as during a go around you could severly damage your engine) or just apply reverse thrust upon touchdown. That will deploy your spoilers aswell. Other than that, I don't know how you could solve the problem.Regards,Mark

If you use the reverser's at main gear touchdown the reversers will deploy, this is a standard realworld practice, you dont have to wait for the nose wheel touchdown on a 757/767 before reverser deployment, there is plenty of rudder authority prior to nose wheel steering.

They will auto deploy regardless of being armed when the reversers are deployed R/W and pic, as long as you are at idle.

Not exactly.Whenever the speedbrake lever is in the arm position, the spoilers will deploy if- both thrust levers in the idle position- aircraft on the ground- hydraulic system x (don't know which one is responsible for this from the back of my head) pressurized- and electrical bus x (again, don't know which one) powered. It's got nothing to do with reverse thrust. Activation of reverse thrust will also extend the spoilers, regardless of speedbrake lever.Regards,Mark
