December 10, 200223 yr It's the "Gear Wind" sound. If I'm not mistaken, the sound is built into the landing gear gauge, but I may be wrong.
December 10, 200223 yr I have to agree with this. That god awful noise drives make crazy when landing! I wonder what the real 767 sounds like with gear extended? Phil G, have you looked into this for your wonderful sound package yet? Randy Randy J Smith
December 10, 200223 yr There's a file out there called gear_wind.gau which sounds just like this. I wonder if the sound was "borrowed" :) Anyway, I can't imagine the sound of air rushing past the gear is really this loud. It's not even this loud in the cabin - right OVER the gears. When I hear the rush of air after dropping the gear in PIC, it makes me think I put a large aluminum tube over my head, opened the window, and stuck my head out at 250 knots.J
December 10, 200223 yr If you've ever been over the landing gear, you'll notice that distinct sound when they're initially deployed. I'd be complaining if they were at full volume at final approach speed, but from what I've noticed, they die down fairly quick as you de-accelerate. It's not simply the sound of air rushing past the landing gear and doors... the parasitic drag creates sound that vibrates, I believe, through the floor of the aircraft. Thus its a relatively low-pitch noise. Next time I take a ride on a 57/67 (which may be quite soon) I'll pay closer attention. If it makes anyone feel better, I am in the process "tweaking" my sound-set. One of these tweaks, concerning the wind sound, seems to blend nicely with the gear noise, making it less distinct. That, and a slight modification to my VFR/LANDING View will be available shortly!Sincerely,Phil Geddes
December 11, 200223 yr Great Phil. I think you hit it on the head with "low-pitch noise". Best Wishes, Randy Smith Randy J Smith
December 11, 200223 yr it's exactly the same as with wingtips, they creat oscillations, due to the parasite drag, those oscillations produce a sound ... figures....
