Question on Reinstalling PIC.

Featured Replies

A friend of mine has a new computer, has installed FS along with RC3 and some other add-ons, and went to install PIC (first from the CD, then to update to the FS2002 patch). Here's a part of his e-mail, with his permission:"I installed PIC 767 right from the cd. I then installed the patch from the Wilco web page. When I started FS2002, I got several messages saying that FS2002 was recognizing some third party software that was installed and it may not be compatible. It gave two choices--yes and no. It said to click no if you want to disable the third party software(I think the messages said it was some kind of .dll files. It said click yes to continue. I clicked yes to continue and FS2002 would not even start. I kept getting an "illegal operation" message and that the program would have to close.I then uninstalled PIC. I then went to use FS2002 with another plane and discovered that when I tried to pull up the Radar Contact ADVDSP that it was missing. when I clicked on the modules tab at the top of the screen, the only thing there was FSUIPC. I had to do a reinstall of Radar contact to get it back. Everthing seems to work fine now, but have not wanted to try the reinstall of PIC without further help."I'm not sure what's happening, other then the adventures in PIC are having an effect here. Any suggestions? I can't recall ever seeing this, but I would have installed PIC before I even had RC3.Thanks,Bruce.KBJC, Jeffco, CO

I think he installed the incorrrect patch. There are now three patches for 767 PIC; and the third one is only to be used with third-party devices. Unfortunately Wilco has not done a good job of describing what each patch does so it's easy to get confused.Your friend needs to install 767 PIC from his CD, then run patch 1.2 which makes it compatible with FS2002. No other patches are necessary and I'd guess he installed patch 1.3.He can get the patch and installation instructions from Eric's website instead of from Wilco Publishing. Eric's site has clear instructions on how to install the patch and you can find it at http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/efpanels/He also needs to install the updated NavData files which are also on the website.

Another point on re-installing PIC. Make sure your friend manualy removes the Wilco Publishing folder left over that the un-install does not remove. Some people also click on the FS2000 patch located on the in-stall cd. Make sure he does not. The correct FS2002 patch is 3.6 megs in size and is located here: ftp://ftp.wilcopub.com/767PilotinCommandPatchFS2002.exe He can install the the 3rd party devices Patch but might have some saving flights issues. It is located here: ftp://ftp.wilcopub.com/767PilotinCommandPatch12to13.exe I doubt that PIC was the issue with the 3rd party issue with Fs. I have seen that many times before and was never caused by PIC.Best Wishes,Randy J.
