February 1, 200323 yr Hey guys, listen, is there a way to get the Top Of Descent marking on the display? for some reason I cant get it to show up. I get Top of Click but not TOD. Hope to hear from one of you soon. THanks in advance for all of your help!Nick Rockbrune
February 1, 200323 yr Do you have an arrival programmed in the FMC? The FMC needs some sort of descent guidance, and entering the STAR and approach expectation (ie ILS RW34L) in the DEP/ARR page will allow the FMC to compute an econ. descent. Modifying the descent speed in the VNAV descent page will update the FMC calculated descent. Just having the destination in the LEGS or RTE page will not automatically include a descent. If you have done this we'll try again!
February 1, 200323 yr Nick, If you have "top of climb" showing i'm pretty sure you also have "top of descent or drop". Is your flight LONG? Try adjusting the EHSI map distance to 160 or further to see. Best Wishes,Randy J. February 2, 200323 yr Hi,Just to clarify something important here. The FMC does NOT calculate a TOD point, if there is:- no Arrival programmed (ie. no altitude restrictions specified for the legs in the arrival route)- no altitude restriction put in the LEGS page of the FMCThe two things above are basically same, only the arrival route selection automatically puts an altitude restriction in the STAR route legs, which leads to FMC creating a TOD point. If no STAR is selected, one must MANUALLY input a restriction beside the desired leg (in the LEGS page) Also, it's good practise to leave the MCP alt alone, until FMC instructs to RESET MCP ALTITUDE 15nm before TOD. This way there will be no unauthorized descents, if the pilot enters a restriction early into the flight and then forgets what has been entered later on... and the aircraft starts to descend all of a sudden :).
