February 18, 200323 yr Hi allSince becoming a member of VATSIM and British Airways Virtual, I have become somewhat interested in IFR Circuits around an airfield. Especially if there isnt much ATC in the UK, I find it ideal to perform these circuits to better increase my confidence online and also to improve my manual landing technique.I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some advice on how to accomplish these successfully in PIC 767.I have tried to search the forum, but I couldnt find anything relating directly to what im looking for.I know the basics of an IFR circuit and the general procedure to carry them out, but im not entirely sure what to do in regards to what you have to enter into the FMC to get your weights, v-speeds, etc.Do I have to enter a route into the FMC to get these, or is there an alternative method to derive this information ?If someone can shed any light on what I have to do to complete these circuits correctly in accordance with realworld procedures, then i'd be really grateful. Thanks in advance,Rgds,Lee Holland BAW446 First Officer (British Airways Virtual)
February 18, 200323 yr Kam became too busy with Mrs Kam to worry about the forum ;-)Important to remember that Kam has described a Visual circuit, it wouldn't work in IFR because you need to be able to see the runway out the window. There is no such thing as an IFR circuit really... all yuo can do is takeoff and get radar vectors onto an instrument approach, normally starting at around 3000ft. I'd stay at flaps 5 Vref+40 after takeoff while comeing round for the approach.

February 19, 200323 yr Hi guysThankyou very much for your replies. The thread that you attached to your post workingstiff was very informative. However, I would like to know how you derive your v-speeds from the FMC, etc. as I guess you wouldnt have to enter a route into it for circuits. Can someone explain if possible how this can be done ? I understand how to fly a circuit both manually or through the autopilots, but i'd just like to know how you get the take-off and landing speeds as I assume these still need to be calculated even if your not specifically flying a route from A to B.Any help at all will be much appreciated.Thanks.Regards,Lee Holland.
February 19, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi LeeYou should always fly with a filled in FMS!You don't need any fancy legs, just enter the departure and arrival airport, select the runways for both departure and arrival (but no SIDs, STARs, transition or approaches). Then enter the weights and performance figures (doesn't matter what cost index you take, or FL) and the FMS should give you the required V speeds.RegardsMark Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
February 19, 200323 yr Hi MarkThankyou for your reply. I didnt realise it was as simple as that. I'll give it a try later on tonight if there isnt much ATC in the UK and see how I get on.Would you know whether or not thats the procedure in the realworld in regards to entering the DEP/ARR APT & RWAYS into the FMC for circuits ?Im addicted to the PIC 767 software & i'd just love to be able to complete numerous touch and go circuits with this to perfect my manual landing techniques which i'll be honest and say are not brilliant at the moment, lol :-lol Thanks again Mark.Regards,Lee Holland.
February 19, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hi LeeI don't know about that one. I guess that could be an airline policy thingy. But I wouldn't know why anyone would not do it.But entering the weights into the FMC is a safety issue aswell! The green F aswell as minimum speeds are all relevant on the gross weight of the aircraft.Regards,Mark Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
