March 14, 200323 yr cz, I have flown 172's without autopilot. I, personally, do not compare a 767 to a trainer. Why then do larger a/c such as the 737 and 777 have autopilots that allow one to use alt hold without heading hold/select? I really find it difficult to believe that a 767 cannot operate these functions independently. Adam
March 14, 200323 yr Real 737 and 777 aircraft do not have autopilots that allow you to use altitude hold without heading hold. That is an unrealistic implementation that Microsoft has put in their flight sim. The real aircraft work just the way the 767 works.
March 14, 200323 yr Commercial Member Hmm let's approach this question from the other side. Why would you want this option in the first place? To be able to steer the plane left or right but you don't want to worry about the altitude? Why? If you want to have the fun of flying, you'll disconnect the AP. On the other hand, if there are multiple tasks to perform, you'll leave the flying to the AP completely!I have never ever seen CWS in action while I was on the FDs of such equipped aircraft.RegardsMark Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
