PIC B767-336ER

Judging from the various reports on the web, it seems as if there will be little improvement in frame rates in FS2K2 between the P4 533 and 800 FSB, apparently because FS2K2 doesn't support Hyper threading technology. As ever, I am totally confused !I am thinking of upgrading so I can run PIC B767, Simflyers Scenery such as KLAS or KDFW and My traffic (at 100%), with a bit of weather thrown in for realism! Am I asking too much, because I can't do it on my AMD 2100xp c/w Geforce 4 Ti 4600 at more than 4 FPS! Take away My traffic and KDFW (Simflyers)the FPS jumps back up to 30 FPS! Can anyone throw any ight on this, as I would actually like to fly rather than hop and stutter from Airport to Airport?, and I am unsure whether to opt for a 533 FSB or wait for the new 800 FSB from Intel many thanksBest Wishes,ChrisEGBB

Chris,Go for whatever is cheaper at the time of your purchase(mobo, RAM, and CPU combined). The reason I say this is because AMD runs slower clocks than Intel, but that doesn't mean that they perform less than an Intel box. They perform roughly the same, so price is the main factor in your choice :)What I will say about HyperThreading is this: Pish-tosh! I don't think the advantages will be so great. Certainly not a show stopper difference.I would upgrade your box, but I wouldn't expect too much increase in performance with an upgrade, even if you have a KT400 board and can put in a XP 3200! Don't get me wrong, the performance will be so benificial to FS2k2 as too be astounding, but right now you should consider FS2004 into your upgrades. Your better off waiting and seeing what kind of hardware is needed to push 2K4 properly.

I agree. That's what I am doing. Sitting tight and waiting to see the reports on how FS2004 runs on various hardware setups. Trust me, the forums here at Avsim will be lit up like a xmas tree in the weeks following the release.
