May 15, 200323 yr "Airlines must add 10 pounds to the estimated weight of each passenger and 5 pounds for each checked bag to ensure that planes do not take off overweight and unsafe, the Federal Aviation Administration announced Wednesday." (Airdisaster.com) ...so it's 190lbs per PAX, PLUS baggage + 5 lbs per bag. This will result in some empty seats/cargo area on those long hauls. In winter, an additional 5 lbs is required...for the winter clothes, etc.For very-fat people flights, such as ACA856....just change the standard units to Kg's ;-)FYI.-----------------------------"I'm gonna put you in my belly"Fat Bar-stad, 2001

May 15, 200323 yr Rob,pax weights is an interesting topic. This brings the FAA weights more into line with the weights I use at work.190lbs = 86Kgs.I use 88Kgs for 1 male pax on a scheduled flight.30lbs = 13Kgs. Currently use 11kgs for domestic, 13kgs for shorthaul international and 15kgs for longhaul.Slightly different pax weights are used for charter flights. Most of these the pax are wearing light summer clothes anyway.Don't think this will have much effect on number of pax on longhauls. What is needed however is the FAA to ban all the American/Canadian citizens who insist on slugging large trolley cases full of slim fast and other snacks around with them as hand luggage. Putting this in as checked baggage would reduce the problem slightly. Disclaimer : It has not been proven that American/Canadian pax have slim fast and snacks in their hand luggage. It has however been proven that they do insist on taking a near full size suitcase as hand luggage
May 15, 200323 yr Hehe - great stuff...Funny though, I hear the same thing about people from the UK when I talk with my buddy at Air Canada...Words to the effect of..."They stumble into the terminal/off the plane, each carrying 5 Sainsbury's/Tesco's plastic bags loaded with PG Tips, 6 cans of London Pride, Durex, "jumpers" (even in July), and tins of biscuits ('because they don't make it the same over 'ere)...the poor sods can't afford REAL carry on baggage, so they pilfer Tesco's and take them for all their worth...then they get rather miffed when they don't get a double seat all to themselves on the 2/4/2 layout 767's...and are even less amused when they have to go through the "foreigners" line up at YYZ customs muttering "don't we still own this bloody colony"...He went on for about half an hour one day about the "limey's" wreaking havoc at YYZ, especially the 'Air Transat' types ;-)BTW, FYI....the derogatory term "Limey" comes from days of old when we staggered off sailing ships sick from scurvy...sucking on limes as soon as they hit the beach, the imperialist invaders became known as "Limeys". As soon as they were back on their feet, it was straight back to some good old raping and pillaging - in proper military fashion, of course ;-) Got to love "limey" history...the Spanyards' were just as bad, rotters............but no one expected the Spanish Inquisition...NOBODY expects a Spanish inquisition....our weapons are surprise and fear, and a fanatical devotion to the pope, and ruthless efficiency...There! I have insulted a good number of people and feel I have entertained and enlightened all on one page.Back to 'work'.Rob.
May 16, 200323 yr The other day I had to give the girl's a hand swapping bags from one broken a/c to the spare at the gate. I thought my you know what's were gonna roll down the tarmack! It felt like a dead body was in most of those bags. I have new found respect for the rampy's now!
April 28, 200521 yr Rob,I'll get you a copy of the new Transport Canada weights when I'm next at work. The average weight for a male is going up to 93 Kgs.
