FSBuild 2.0 Fuel Flow Problems

Featured Replies

This is a great program but I have a few minor things. Perhaps you all have some thoughts.I am seeing a lot of fuel calculation problems here. I use exclusively the 767-300 aircraft (PIC and regular with CF6 engines), and I know the tables were carefully prepared by Mike Bevington and others. However, on many routes the fuel burn is completely off. One thing I have noticed is that on many flights, the time to climb to, for example, FL370 or FL390 is shown as less than 10 minutes with a fuel burn of perhaps a couple thousand lbs. At a weight of 280-300k lbs, there is no way that this is accurate. So the total fuel needed is showing less than what is really needed for the flight.Try this flight plan: PAJN JNU2.SSR YZT J502 ARRUE YVR J52 OCS CYS.RAMMS3 KDEN and you will see what I mean.Damon

Damon,I will need a bit more information to answer this. Can you email the NAVLOG to me for that route? [email protected] afternoon, I flew a similar departure out of PAJN for KMSP at FL370 to time arrival with an over the shoulder exam for a controller. My biggest deviation in fuel burn was passing just north of Calgary where I was 800 pounds over the FSBuild number. From there it kept getting closer up to landing with 300 pounds over the FSBuild projection. In your case, there is a problem with the way the route is being built and I would really like to see that NAVLOG. After receiving your NAVLOG, I will send you the one I flew. Also, note that FSBuild has multiple variations of the 767 aircraft. The one I tweaked has "767PIC ADDON" tagged at the end.Mike

I e-mailed you two problem Navlogs.Let me know what you think (play around with the initial waypoints, I think there are some issues there maybe they are placed too close together or something and FSBUILD doesn't like it.Thanks!Damon

The whole problem is that you most likely have the step climb feature checked in you user settings. Uncheck it from the "Build Options" menu and build the route again. Unless flying routes we;; in excess of 2500 miles, I would not even consider using the step climb option. So turn that off in your user settings, it will not show up as checked on the "Build Options" menu the next time you start FSBuild. Toggle it on the options menu as required rather than unchecking it on flights of under 6 hours or so.I can't take credit for finding that. Ernie pegged it within a very short time. http://www.hwforums.com/1767/index.htmlDo take a look at the zip file I sent you and try out the alternate display config file as well as looking at the method for customizing the title line on your flight plans (check the screenshot of my FSB config file).Hope this cures the problems you had let us know if you need further assistance. The quickest way to get a response is through the FSB user forum. http://www.hwforums.com/1767/ Ernie watches it like a hawk.Mike

Hi!Not to "diss" FSBuild by any means, but are you aware of the Pilotmedia flight planner, that is even used by real-world dispatchers. It's a venture by a group of Finnish hardcore virtual aviators. The url is this:http://www.pmflightplanner.com/These are the features. I use this exclusively for my PIC767 flights. "Pilotmedia Flight Planner is a web-based flight planning system for virtual aviation community. Virtual pilots all over the world may register to the system and create professional flight plans for their virtual flight. The system can be used free of charge. Most of the features of the PMFP are based on real world flight planning programs and systems. For example, the Briefing Package that PMFP creates has got its format from Finnair's Lido-based Briefing Package. You are able to download or send by e-mail your own Briefing Package in RTF format, including fuel and weight calculation, flight plan route, weather reports and many many other features.- Fuel Flow and Weight Calculation - Flight Time and Distance Calculation - Top of Climb and Top of Descent Calculation - Weather Reports (TAF and METAR from real world, METAR from VATSIM) - Printable Briefing Package - Customisable Map with WX reports, routes, fixes and coastlines - Real World Company Routes as flight plan templates - and much much more... "It is really an extraordinary flight planner, one has to see the briefing packages it creates to believe :)regardsTero

Well there are several features Fsbuild has that pmflightplanner does not. And most of the the features on the list you mentioned are also within Fsbuild-2 features list. Have you seen the Fsbuild briefing package (ie Navlog ) ?Regards.Ernie.

Ernie,Hi! Thanks for replying. I'm actually pretty dumbass regarding FSBuild. I was under the impression that FSBuild was more of a "not so serious" FPL software, as PMFP was a "serious one" :).Feel free to educate me on this matter, I'm all ears. Whatever works and is realistic is welcome!regardsTero

But PM Flight Planner is rather useless for fuel planning. I don't know if it's because it doesn't take winds into account, or if there's another reason, but I've learned the hard way to never trust PMFP's fuel calculations.Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing

Tero,Did you ever pull down any of the PIC on VATSIM packages I put together? Those flightplans/NAVLOGS were all done in FSBuild. It really is a very nice program and it is very quick to use once you set up your options. Check out the website http://www.fsbuild.comMike

Boy are you guys fast!!! Thanks for the fix! I will check it when I get home on Thurs and let you know how closely it matches your zip file. I have been watching the FSBUILD forum so I saw how quickly you are Ernie jumped on this. Thanks again!!Damon

Mike,Not really but I realize I do need to check the FSBuild out now! :DTero

Martin,Ok, copy that. I'll check out FSBuild ASAP... it seems good, 'cause if it weren't, you all wouldn't be saying otherwise..heheheTero

>Feel free to educate me on this matter, I'm all ears. Whatever >works and is realistic is welcome!Hi Tero,Check out the Fsbuild-2 features page, its all explained there.http://www.tecpilot.com/users/erniealston/fsb2_features.htmTake special note of the screenshot showing the pmflightplanner page embedded within the Fsbuild interface. So you could take advantage of both planners within the same interface if you wanted to.Regards.Ernie.
