Help; Goal to make the most realistic airline sim flight possible. . .

Hi everyone,Ok, I've figured out how to fly the airplane around KLAX and work the FMC. 767PIC, what a cool program! My goal is to fly the most realistic airline flights possible using actual airline flight plans and checklists. I need some help to go from local VFR flights around KLAX to the airline sim flights that I want to fly. Before I start asking sim questions, does anyone know a guide to help an FS simmer fly airline flights? Or, have any of you made up a summary or maybe a "quickstart," airline sim overview to help get folks started? If so, some links, directions, references, or e-mails would be appreciated. Ok, onto the sim prep questions.1. How do I get a flight plan entered into the FS ATC? So far, I've never flown any FS flight using the built in ATC. Any suggestions on how to make this a smooth transition?2. I keep reading about the lack of SID/STARS. Is this not included in the FMC update on the Wilco site? If not, where is this info and how do I add this info to the database?3. Any good suggestions for getting airline flightplans/checklists?Finally, here is a request for some of you more experienced 767PIC types. Can one of you please give us a step-by-step on how you set-up and fly airline flights? That would really help folks such as myself to start flying airline too. Plus, maybe we can all enjoy picking up new and better techniques from the more experienced users.Eventually, I would like to participate in an on-line fly-in. However, right now I just want to master airline flying. Any help and/or suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.

Go Vatsim, it's the only ATC you want to use for realism factor. Check out Navdata for more complete Navdata sids stars etc. You can pretty much use real world check list etc, check out Bill's PIC 767 flying Club page for links etc. We seem to be lacking in a detailed *How to* but this forum has everything you will need to locate what you're looking for. Use the search option...[h5]Best Wishes,Randy J. Smith[/h5][h6]Are You Ready For The Next Great one? >"does anyone know a guide to help an FS simmer fly airline flights?"That may be a bigger question than I can answer. You first need to know (and understand) how to use PIC FMC and properly preflight the aircraft. It takes about a week but reading and re-reading the PIC manuals is a good start. There are some tutorials out there but you still need to have a full understanding of the panel which only can be done by carefully reviewing the manuals.Required reading manuals, the third one is VERY important:ftp://ftp.wilcopub.com/767_Pilot_in_Comma...and_Systems.pdfftp://ftp.wilcopub.com/767_FMC.pdfhttp://www.flightsimnetwork.com/efpanels/u...PIC11Update.pdfhttp://www.flightsimnetwork.com/efpanels/7...C/767PICfaq.htmTutorialshttp://library.avsim.net/sendfile.php?DLID=9720Plus another one I can't locate right now.>"1. How do I get a flight plan entered into the FS ATC? So far, I've never flown any FS flight using the built in ATC. Any suggestions on how to make this a smooth transition?"I have never used FS ATC or FS traffic. VATSIM exclusively>"2. I keep reading about the lack of SID/STARS. Is this not included in the FMC update on the Wilco site? If not, where is this info and how do I add this info to the database"First and foremost, download some charts and learn how to read them and program them into the FMC. If you use canned procedures and have to change them at the request of ATC, you need to be very comfortable with this.Charts:http://clearanceunlimited.com/SID-STAR-IAP/chts-main.shtmlhttp://edj.net/cgi-bin/echoplate.plhttp://www.naco.faa.gov/ap_diagrams.aspPIC specific Prodedures:Register and get a login ID first to access the files. Open the SIDs/STARS folder on the web page and click on 767PIC. Download to your hearts content. http://www.navdata.at/Also search here on AVSIM for SIDS and STARS for the PIC, just search "767 PIC" and you will find all kinds of goodies.SIDS go in C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFS2002FMCWPnavdataSIDSSTARS go in C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFS2002FMCWPnavdataStarsTip, clean out any older approach/departure files for any airport you download new files for to eliminate the extra sets of procedures showing up in you FMC.>"3. Any good suggestions for getting airline flightplans/checklists?"Flightplans:I use FSBuild 2.0 http://www.fsbuild.comAlso many routings can be found on the ARTCC/FIR pages access from the right panel of the VATSIM site, http://www.vatsim.net just select a region and follow your nose from there. The checklist I use:http://www.flightsimnetwork.com/efpanels/7...7Checklists.zip>"Finally, here is a request for some of you more experienced 767PIC types. Can one of you please give us a step-by-step on how you set-up and fly airline flights?"Now that is a bigger question than I can answer here. It would take hours of typing and several pages at a minimum to go through it. Remember the manuals key and please get to know the power of the AVSIM forum advanced search function. There are lots of tips and hundeds of answered questions that can be found that way.Good luck and happy PICing,

Tero,Your checklist is well done and I like it also. I had not converted to it because of growing so familiar with one I linked, kind of like an older pair of shoes you don't want to part with because they fit so well.Anyway, I should have remembered to link it as an option.Mike

Martin,The old link I had (good thing I checked it) for great quality euro charts no longer worked. They were not scans as I recall but rather real good digital charts and you did not have to install any software to view them. Maybe that was specific to the UK, I can't remember now.Mike

Mike,Not to worry. My list is not something that everybody should absolutely use. I'm sure many will prefer a kind of procedure list over an actual checklist anyway, it's a matter of personal preference as we are after all using a sim and not flying for a real airline :).But anyway.. I'm just a bit excited about the fact that I now have realistic and functional checklists, and I seem to feel the need to let everybody else know of it as well :)cheersTero

You can find good pdf charts for the UK at http://www.ais.org.uk. You have to register first, but it's free. The charts can also be found at Eurocontrol though.Martin767 fetishistIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing

Randy, Mike, Tero, Martin,Thanks for all the help you guys. Vatsim, Manuals, Charts, Tutorials, Free EuroCharts, even a personalized checklist. What can I say? Definately good, solid info to help me get going with some airline flights.Unfortunately, work is really heavy right now. Next break, I'm going to research all the links and try a "real," airline flight. I will definately take some notes and write up a short summary of my experience.I will try to take some screen shots too. I might even hold off buying FS2004 until I can really get my 767PIC into airline mode.Anyway, thanks a lot you guys. You're help is one of the very reasons that I joined this forum. Thanks also to anyone else that throws some help my way.I'll keep you all advised about how my first 767PIC airline flight turns out. . .stay tuned
