POSKY757 - PIC merge ready

Featured Replies

Hi people!I just completed merging the POSKY757 and PIC767.It was just a matter of making a few small tweaks to my IFDG-PIC aircraft.cfg.Everything works as it should, and of course the PIC767 FDE is in use. So it's only the external model that is merged.Interested ? mail: [email protected], and I'll send you the .cfgTero

Hi Tero,So basically you are using 767-300 flight dynamics for a 757-200?I realise the flight decks on the two aircraft are almost identical and pilots rated to fly one can fly the other, but I can't see these two aircraft having the same flight characteristics. The 767's wide body is no where near as slippery as the streamlined narrow body 757 and that's just one of many differences. V speeds are lower for the 757 and the plane is more responsive in turns etc etc.Whether you use the PIC .air file or not you will still have to figure out your own vrefs or trick the fmc into thinking it belongs to a 757 by entering bogus zfw weights (which I do and get spot on numbers when I reference my 752 vspeed tables). In any event one would be flying a 763 in the sim while using a 752 visual model.I chose to look at Iskanders FDE for the ifdg 752 and then modify it extensively for the Posky 752/PIC panel. At least this way I get 752 handling characteristics and I have no problems what so ever with functionality with the PIC panel other then the obvious bogus zfw weight entry into the fmc to get accurate vrefs. I too think PIC's FDE is state of the art, but unfortunatly it's just not appropriate to use it with a 752 if one is looking at some sort of realism.I'm not trying to step on any toes here, but rather pointing out some facts.Interesting link below to just some of the difference between the two aircraft.http://www.757.org.uk/Regards,Van LatendresseYeoDesigns/AFG GroupPanel/FDE Designer

We discussed that issue (using 767FDE with 757 exterior model) recently, and I prefer to have a 757 FDE too and stayed with the IFDG PW4037 so far, but I didn

Hi Ansgar,I've had good results with the FDE's I modified for use in FS2002 with the PIC panel and have emailed many the files already, including a retired 757 pilot and I've only gotten positive feedback replies thus far. One can't expect perfection in MSFS, but I find the Posky 752's to fly close to the numbers for me.In any even I've done up the RR-RB211-535E4 and PW-PW2043 engine variants so far and have a great time flying them.If you are interested in trying what I've put together out, then give me a shout at [email protected] the FDE is only for FS2002 and an alternative to using the PIC FDE.Regards,Van LatendresseYeoDesigns/AFG GroupPanel/FDE Designer

Van,You're not stepping on toes here. But. I'm fully aware of the differences between a 757 and a 767.As I have stated many times before:In my opinion, the PIC767 FDE is VERY close to the flight model I had the opportunity to fly in a 757 full flight simulator for a couple of hours. There's no point in trying to fool the FMC to do anything. I'm fully aware also of the bogus ZFW's of 115t and 130t to make the V-speeds be close to the 757 regime. I myself used Iskander's 757 FDE for a while, but ever since the simulator visit I have given up on that one. NO disrespect to Iskander whatsoever, I just experienced a wholly different 757 in the big sim, and in MY opinion the PIC767 handles VERY close. The big sim 757 was nowhere near as hard to slow down as Iz's FDE. Other handling characteristics were different as well, but I will not go into detail about it now, because the original 767 FDE is close enough. After having spoken to many pilots about the flight characteristics of 757 and 767, and after flying the 757 sim myself, I have become convinced that the operation of a 757 with PIC767 flight dynamics is NOT a far fetch, not by a long shot. There are some _small_ handling differences between these two, for example the 757 requires a lot more elevator for rotation than the 767, and is a bit more agile in turns. But the differences are subtle, mind you. And that is also one reason to why the two types can be flown with the SAME type-rating. Flight deck commonality is not enough in itself. Of course the speeds are a tad lower with the 757, but in my book that's nothing.I'm merely offering my aircraft.cfg, which makes the POSKY757 fly flawlessly with PIC767 panel AND FDE. I myself am also using the awesome idle-taxi modified air-file, and am enjoying my 757 flights very much. If someone has an issue about using the 767 dynamics with a 757 model, then just go ahead and make the modification to the config, it ain't that hard :). But PIC767 was not meant to be flown with 3rd party air-files.Tero

Van,Oh btw. I'm unable to make the POSKY FDE fly the right numbers in right attitudes.Final approach speeds are always much lower than what my speed booklets say, to achieve the right body attitude of 2-3 degrees airplane nose up. If one is to fly the numbers as published, the aircraft will fly ~ 6 degrees too much nose down (ie. 2-3 degrees below level), and that is unacceptable in my book. Otherwise the POSKY FDE seems to be alright, but it feels VERY odd compared to the real 757 sim I flew.Just my two cents...Tero

Tero, After reading your comments about using the PIC FDE with a 757 visual model, I figured I'd try the same thing myself, and I have loved the results thus far. I too noticed that Iz's FDE made the plane way too slippery, and I didn't enjoy having to extend the speed brakes just to achieve an acceptable rate of descent. With the PIC FDE I've just taken a few thousand pounds off of the ZFW in the aircraft config and, having no real world experience with 757s, the feel of how the airplane handles is good enough for me. The only thing that gets me is the fuel flow. I've been considering tinkering with the fuel scalar to achieve flow similar to a 757, but don't know if this is feasible. Any ideas?Ryan

Tero,I agree that the Posky fde was totally unacceptable to use in FS2002 as I tried it out quickly and didn't like what I saw. On another note I did mention that I modified Iskanders FDE extensively and the aircraft is not nearly as slippery now and I applied the taxi mod that was available for PIC. The gauge readings are not off like they were before, especially N1's almost at idle during approach now they are around 60% and that's where they should be. I get good fuel flow readings as well and more elevator is needed for take off then the 767 etc etc. All in all I notice a difference between flying the 767 and 757 in the sim as I'm sure a pilot would notice a difference between flying the two in the real world. As a panel and fde designer I'm well aware of a panels interaction with the .air file and no "one" air file has to be used with a panel. I have zero inop issues by using the FDE I have modified and for me I like to have the correct flight characteristics for a given aircraft or one might as well just fly the 763, but that's my personal preference. In any event, fellow PIC heads have a couple of options available to them so they can now fly Posky's wonderful 757 if they desire to do so.Kindest Regards,Van LatendresseYeodesigns/AFG GroupPanel/FDE Designer

Van, Perhaps you could send me your modified 757 FDE? [email protected] Thanks,Ryan

Van,Could you send me your 757-mod airfile? I would like to give it a serious whirl :)[email protected]

PPL(A)

Me too please Van! [email protected]

YES [email protected] you send some instructions too, thanks.Alex.

Nice to read the "airfiletalk" of the small 75er community here ;-)Tero thanx for your mail and of course Van, you got a mail from me.Looking forward testing! Especialy "not nearly as slippery" sounds promising. Thanx in advance.

TeropaI have studied this post and the other post concerning the flight test using Van's Modified Iskander FDE for the Posky757/PIC merge. You mention both FS2002 and FS9 in your posts. Could you be a little more specific as to what version of FS you are using this merge in. I am a long time PIC head and fly the PIC/POSKY 767 exclusively with all of lee Heatherington's mods. I have downloaded the Posky 757-200 and the read me file say's it's for FS2004 only. I have also contacted Van and he has been gracious in sending me his modified FDE's and aircraft.cfg file along with some effects files. However I am holding off from doing this merge untill I know exactly what FS version everyone is using. any response would be greatly appreciated
