November 7, 200421 yr Hello All,I believe I read somewhere that if you have to fly overhead a waypoint in a SID/STAR that it's "hard programmed" into the FMC database; does the same go for DME arcs? Also, could someone tell me if the LDS 767 has the ability to show such geometry? I know it's never been done in FS, so far. :-)Cheers,PaulP.S. Has anyone got a photo of an ND showing a DME Arc or "fly overhead" waypoint? I'd like to see it, (maybe a screenshot of the LDS 767 perhaps.) ;-) Thanks
November 7, 200421 yr Paul,DME-arcs are something that is constructed by the pilot/FMC. Every point on the arc will be a "fly-by" point, but by placing them closely together you won't notice any adverse effects.Have a look at this page; there is a "PIC 767 manual" for flying a DME arc. Kind regards,Stephan Haaswww.lemont.nl/b767flightdeckhttp://www.pic767flyingclub.com/images/sas544.jpg
November 7, 200421 yr Thanks Stephan, just a quick question. If your flying into Dublin EIDW, your probably going to have to fly a DME arc within the STAR. So your saying 767 pilots in real life will have to construct it manually? i.e. if the pilot just selected the STAR the autopilot would fly direct from the start of the arc to the end, and you'd obviously get a few nasty comments from ATC.Makes an arrival breifing pretty important. :-)Cheers
November 7, 200421 yr Actually...DME arcs are never constructed by the pilots, the real DME arcs I mean. They are part of the procedure that's stored in the database. If you want to "mimic" a DME arc in the real aircraft or in PIC you can do it in several different ways. Here's two.1. Enter the center VOR to the FIX page, and enter the inbound radial and the desired arc distance for it. Voila!2. Enter VOR,RADIAL/DISTANCE waypoints one after another so that they have, say, 5 or 10 degrees difference in the radials. For example the center VOR is Helsinki VOR, HEL:HEL180/12HEL175/12HEL170/12HEL165/12etc. etc. etc. This way you would have waypoints that are 12 miles from Helsinki VOR placed one after the other on 5 degrees separation on the arc. The tighter you put the waypoints in, the better the arc is.Tero PPL(A)
November 7, 200421 yr Thanks Tero, so back to my original question, as you say, DME arcs are stored in the FMC database, will the LDS 767 also display DME arcs as per real life?Regards,Paul
November 7, 200421 yr Commercial Member and PPS 767's don't have ND's! EHSI is what you are looking for.Regards,Mark Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
