January 31, 200521 yr For the last couple of months in this forum I have heard alot of talk about aileron droop. Can somebody explain to me:What it is,What causes it,Is it good or bad,and when would one most likely see it?Thanks alot everyone!Neil
January 31, 200521 yr Hi,Q: What is it??A: The ailerons drop down a bit.Q: What causes it???A: When you select flaps 5 or more the ailerons drop automaticaly, or you can use the aileron trim to drop down the ailerons.Q: Is it good or bad???A: That depends on the situation.Ie. when the flaps are extended to 5 or more it is good as it provides a better aileron flexibility.Q: And when would one most likely see it???A: By flap extention or by aileron trim.Hope it helps. ;)
January 31, 200521 yr Guys, the ailerons are used for roll. To Improve the roll characteristics of the 757 and the 767 with the Flaps deployed ( Flaps 5 or greater ) the Inboard Ailerons will droop. If you look at a control surfaces check of the 767 with the Flaps at the Take OFF setting you will notice that the Inboard Ailerons on the Control Surfaces display drop to approx 1/2 way between the centre position and the Bottom position. When you move the control wheel, the inboard ailerons will still move to the same limits on the control surfaces display as the outboard ailerons.
February 1, 200521 yr I think you guys must be smoking those funny cigarettes again..... :(Aileron droop is only to increase wing lift.Aileron droop on a 767-300 begins somewhere between 0 and 5 units of flap. At 5 units of flap, both Inboard (only) Ailerons should have extended to 10 degrees down. However approaching Flaps 30, the ailerons reduce their droop to about 5 degrees. Droop has nothing to do with trim. Aileron Trim operates with/without flaps and unlike, Aileron Droop, the ailerons go up on one wing and down on the other....just like they would if you turned the control wheel.Cheers.Ian.
February 1, 200521 yr Thank you Ramon, Mark, and Ian for responding. I think I get it now.Next time I fly a 75, or 76, I will really be looking closely. I usually watch flap extensions, and control surface checks, but never really payed attention to the "droop" before. Much appreciated!Neil :-)
February 1, 200521 yr Hi!Very interesting discusion here. I made a small movie while landing at EHAM in a United 763ER. You can clearly see the inside aileron is lowered a little bit, but not that much I expected. In the promo video of leveld, it seems that the inside aileron is much more lowered at approach. Anyone can explain? Here is the link of the movie (is this allowed anyway? I made the movie by my self) http://home.wanadoo.nl/noelverhaal/RMOV0049.AVIJust like you, i almost can't wait for the new LevelD sim. Great work guys!Greets,Daniel
