December 27, 200520 yr I guess that I spent so long trying to learn to start the engines on the Level-D 767-300 that the battery shows DISCHARGED as soon as I switch from External Power or shut down the APU. How do you "recharged" the battery so that I do not have to start the APU BEFORE I break the External Power? Thanks, jerrycwo4
January 5, 200620 yr You should have your APU on before you disconnect the External Power Source. When else do you think you'd use the APU? You turn APU when you start engines, so you only really use the APU at the gate.
January 9, 200620 yr The battery alone won't run all the systems and will drain pretty fast. At any point on the flight deck you need at least one of the following.-APU on-At least one engine running with generator on-Ground Power establishedRule of thumb:-Once in the cockpit, get battery on and request external power.-About 10-15 mins prior to pushback, start the APU and get it running. THEN disconnect external power.-Once pushed back and with BOTH engines running and generators on, APU can be shut down.-------------------------------------------Once landed at your destination, as you taxi in, start the APU, by the time you are parked on your gate, the APU will be ready. Check that the RUN light is showing, then shut down engines.-Prior to leaving the aircraft, get external power connected, THEN shut down APU.There should always be an 'overlap' between each change of power source so that the supply of power to the aircraft isn't disrupted, even momentarily.Cheers Mark Adeane - NZWN
