Couple of multi-PC SB+WideFS questions

Featured Replies

Hi everybody !When using 2 computers to split Fs2002 and SB+RW, etc,1) on which computer should the internet connection be installed ?2) if it's on the one with SB and not FS2002, then how can the multiplayer sessions work ? Are the those infos being relayed by WideFS over the network ?3) is it possible to have a 3rd PC connected to the network, on which we could use the "instructor" option of FS2002 to give out some failures ? We tried to make that work but looks like it's imperative for the instructor to create the session and the aircraft to koin it. In that case, I guess there is no way of seing other aircrafts anymore ?? The goal is to assign somebody to that 3rd PC so he can make some engines fail on the FS2002 PC unexpectadly ! At the same time we would still like to see other aircraft. 4) About CSL aircraft, what should I do in order to have them up-to-date with textures and everything ? Any good URL ?5) When assigning a joystick button to the Press-to-talk function of RW over the network, and since I have 2 joysticks/yokes connected at the same time, are both joysticks buttons corresponding to the number assigned affected ? --> I'd like to assign button 6 on my yoke and button 1 on my joystick if possible. Thanks for your time, folks !Andr

1. Both computers need to be hooked up to the internet by using a HUB of some type. Depends on your connection. 2. See 1, this way SB and FS2k2 can connect to the internet.3. Start of by getting the first two running, then you can setup instructor station from your own LAN. Again, hook your computers up to a hub.4. I don't miss with the CSL except the ones from my own VA, You'll have to look that one up. 5. Yes you can have RW running on one computer and assign a joystick button to transmitt for you. I have a throttle and a yoke, and both have a RW key assigned to them. Everything you want to do is possible. You should find more info online and in the WideFS read me file. I'm on my way out the door and it would take some time to explain it all. Get your home network configured and the rest is a piece of cake.

Andre,Just to correct what Talon said, you do not need a hub for 2 computers.Lets call one computer FSPC and the other SBPC.You need a network card in each and, obviously, a network cable to connect the two. I suugest using UTP cable and you need a cross-over cable, not a straight through one.Set up the networking on both PCs. If you are using Win9x you need to setup IPX/SPX protocol on both PCs and TCP/IP on the SBPC; this is the one which will connect to the internet.Bind the TCP/IP protocol to your dial-up adaptor on the SBPC (if you already have a dial-up connection that protocol will be set up already)Bind the IPX/SPX protocol to your network card in each PC.On the FSPC you need FS, FSUIPC, and Widefs server, the Widefs documents will tell you how and where to install it.On the SBPC you need SB & RW and Widefs client installing. If running this way you do NOT need the latest version of SB, V2.3.0.4 will do because you don't need the 'host' patch produced for FS2k2 when running SB on the FS PC.When you start a session in FS Multiplayer you select IPX/SPX protocol, NOT TCP/IP, similarly use IPX/SPX in the SB connection.I can't help with the 3 PC setup as I only use 2 PCs.Hope this helps.

Thanks for correcting me. I forgot about the crossover cable setup.

Thanks guys ! Si if I now understand fine , only the SBPC needs internet ? So the multiplayer aircraft info is transmitted via WideFS ?About the x-over cable, that's fine for 2 PC's, but since we would like to have 3 of them, i guess the hub is necessary !Ok, we'll try this out when we get together and eventually let you know !CU !Andr

Thanks for your confirmations, and to answer your question, we intend to use the 3rd PC as an instructor post, using the one that comes with FS2002 professional, as I said previously. The question is, can that work together with the widefs and sb multiplayer aircraft combo ?Andr
