Trying for 3 days to make SB work...

Featured Replies

I managed to get RogerWilco working but I cannot in any way shape or form get SB to connect.I have read many different articles and followed sets of instructions up the ying yang. Do I need FSWide to run SB in FS2002 or do I not need FSWIde?...Do I need to install SB2.1.2 (?) and then SB2.3 or do I not need to. What gives here? I get connected to the net, I run FS2002 and set up my flight plan, set up a multiplayer game, host a session, file a flight plan in SB, choose a server (IVAN_CANADA ?) from the server list. All I can choose from the ATC directory is UNICOM or some other choice (There are only 2) and ultimately I get a error: "timed out". What connects SB to the controllers I talked to through ServInfo? How do I get my plane to the airport that they are controlling?I have Servinfo and have been able to listen in and talk to controllers. But can I get connected in any way...NO. I have typed the IP address of the US1E (?) server in the SB IP address field. NO go there either.I really want to do online flying with realtime ATC, but this is getting rediculous. What I would like to know is how did these other people figure it out. I've been giving it my best! :-hmmm :-hmmm :-hmmm Thanks for listening to my rant.Adam

You may have a problem completely unrelated to SB. I was having problems being kicked off the server after a few seconds after connecting (I had been using SB successfully for months), and after a reformat/clean install of my Win98 and drivers(because of other problems I was experiencing related to video drivers)it works fine now. My PC was in bad shape and SB didn't like it. I use version 2.3 build 5 with FS2002.Just a thought.HK

Thank you Henry. What you suggest is a distinct possibility. My system could probably use a bit of an overhaul with all the addons I've applied. However, I'm not touching a reformat with a ten foot pole. I'm sure I'd just muck it up. Plus, I wouldn't know how to go about it anyway.May I ask, when you originally installed SB, was there anything that you found to be somewhat troublesome in the installation/connection process? I ask as I really haven't experienced an anomolies to speak of with regard to performance or display. Just hoping for any hints. Thanks again, Adam. Trying desperately to... :-)

I think I might know what you problem is. I hadn't flown on VATSIM for awhile, and so when I tried to connect last night I had the same problem. Turns out the server I was trying to connect to no longer exists at that IP address. Try this...Go to www.vatsim.net and click on "Server Status". Find the IP address for the server you want to connect to, and type that IP address directly into the server box on the connect screen for Squawkbox. I betcha that'll work. You do not need WideFS for Squawkbox. WideFS is only used to run additional FS2002 displays on other computers networked together. You definitely do need FSUIPC, however. Squawkbox won't tie into FS2002 without it.

Hi Jason, sorry for the delay in responding to your post. I will give what you suggest a try.I appreciate the help.Adam

Adam,Be careful using Jason's suggestion ;-)In your original msg you say you have tried to connect to IVAN_CANADA, that is part of the IVAO network, Jason suggested you look at VATSIM, a different organisation. There are 2 main on line flying organisations, VATSIM & IVAO each with its own setup and registration and you won't see IVAO servers at a VATSIM site not the VATSIM servers at an IVAO site.I assume you have registered with either IVAO or VATSIM, a pre-requisite to be able to connect with SB, in fact when you try to connect with SB it asks for your PID & password. RW does not have this limitation.Rgds
