sector creation gurus -- HELP

Featured Replies

OK, I am creating a sector for ASRC from scratch. I need to know if there are any gurus out there who can tell me how to extract a shoreline for a lake. If any choose to give me an assist would be grateful.I am looking to create a fairly detailed shoreline. I believe I could get this data from a BGL file in FS. Would that be a correct assumption?I was surprised that I could not find the data in the DAFIF file. Also, does anyone know where I can find the real world TRACON boundaries? I am not looking for the boundaries of a "Class C", but more for the actual airspace boundaries for the controlling agencies.Thanks,J. Jason VodnanskyJetStar AirlinesCFI-I

Here's what I do:The first thing you do is go to http://crusty.er.usgs.gov/coast/getcoast.html to download the data. Use the default format of Mapgen. Pick any database you want, but be prepared for some large files with extended area coverage and/or high detail.Go to Enrico Schiratti's Tidbits page at http://www.schiratti.com/tidbits.html and download the Coastline Extractor to SCT converter. Extract it to the same directory where your USGS Mapgen files are. Run sctconv and select the data to convert. The USGS data will be named with some number .dat (i.e. 24807.dat). Sctconv will show these numbered files. When it is done, and it could take awhile if it's a large data file, you will have a file named with the same number but with a .sct extension. The other thing it will have is the word 'Coastline' in the color field. I have tried defining 'Coastline' as an actual color but I can't get it to work. I end up using Find and Replace to change all instances of 'Coastline' to whatever color I want to use. Copy the entire file onto the clipboard and paste it into the GEO section of the sector file you are working with. This makes some great looking coastlines, but some HUGE sector files!Mike

Mike,1 word.....WOW Thank you so much, BEAUTIFUL shorelinebut took my file from 47K to 985K anyway, regarding the find and replace feature, I just created a define for coastline and used the color I wanted that was already there.Gorgeous,J. Jason VodnanskyJetStar AirlinesVATSIM ZAU ARTCCI-3CFI-I
