  1. I have been running the X55 drivers since they came out in September. They seem to work well. I haven't had any issues. I can't speak to the drivers for the other products. Mike
  2. Are you trying to run it outside of FSX? Simple answer is, "Don't". I tried that and got the same error message box. Start up a flight in FSX and in your Add-ons menu you will have a new entry called AI Ships. That is what runs carrier.exe and allows you to configure what ships you use and where they are located.Mike
  3. Hi, Christian,It was in the southern New Hampshire, USA area. Around the cities of Nashua and Manchester. I run FSX full screen so I can't be more specific than that. I notice the message after I end the flight. If it would be helpful I can run FSX in windowed mode and see if I can narrow down the specifics of where the error pops up.Mike
  4. I don't seem to be having any success tracking this down. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks,Mike
  5. For some reason I have started experiencing the following error message:TileAPI: WARNING! Output size of write_extended_bmp looks fishy! (16777290)What I think is happening is that I have my Max_Level set too high for the area I am flying in because the message appears after a series of HTTP 400 errors. I'm thinking about dropping the Max_Level setting down a notch and see what happens. If it makes a difference, I am using Service 3.Am I on the right track or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks,Mike
  6. Arista,Perfect! I found it in Firefox. It's under Tools -> Page Info -> Media.Barry,Updating the version numbers in the proxyuser.ini might get you better tiles for the area you are flying over. From every TP release I have seen so far Christian has the current version numbers current at the time of release. Since there has been some talk about there being a significant amount of time before the next release I wanted to figure this out myself so that I could keep the map versions current. To be honest, I haven't seen much difference in the tiles between different versions so everyone will have to make there own decision as to whether or not doing periodic version checks is worth the effort over just waiting for the next TP release. Mike
  7. I thought I saw in an earlier thread how to determine the map version for the different services. I don't seem to be having any luck finding it tonight.Could someone explain how to retrieve the current map versions in use by a particular map service? Thanks,Mike
  8. In the Display section of your fsx.cfg file there is an entry called WideViewAspect. Try setting it to True and see if that makes a difference.Mike
  9. It's in the scenery.cfg in C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataMicrosoftFSXMike

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I started with GE and liked what I saw. I deleted the cache, ran the cleanup.bat file and then reconfigured for VE. For what it's worth, I liked GE better and switched back. It wasn't that VE was bad, it was that GE just seemed sharper. I suppose a lot of it has to do with where you fly. I did my comparison in southern New Hampshire.Mike

Christian, you're a genious! This is what VFR flying is all about. One question for the group. I am using GE (tried VE but the textures didn't seem to look as good). After the URLs are retrieved I get the following in my ProxyUser console numerous times:tileproxy.sys: FileAllInformation?tileproxy.sys: PostQueryInformation() was unsuccessful asking for:tileproxy.sys: FileAllInformationThe textures appear to be loaded normally so I'm not sure if the above is good, bad, or just normal processing. Thanks again. This is the best addon for FS I have ever seen and I've flown every version since the SubLogic days.Mike
  12. >In the real plane, you pull the knob. (So if you control the>throttle from the panel in the game you will have to pull the>knob).>>But if you have a throttle on your computer joystick, the>setting is probably that you have to push the throttle lever.>>Actually, in the real plane you push the knob to add power. The throttle arrangement in every aircraft I can think of is the same. If you want to go forward, you push the throttle forward. Now that I think of it, it's the same with my truck! :)Mike BromleyPP SEL
  13. Look in the Display section of your fsx.cfg. You will see the following entries:InfoBrakesEnable=FalseInfoParkingBrakesEnable=TrueInfoPauseEnable=TrueInfoSlewEnable=TrueInfoStallEnable=FalseInfoOverspeedEnable=FalseSet them to True or False to set your tastes.Mike

    Shift-Z, twice.Mike
  15. Bill,Once you get within about 60-70 miles of your destination ATC will start issuing vectors to the runway. In effect, they are overriding your flight plan. It happens in the real world too. Usually not so far out.Mike
  16. If I'm not mistaken, The Special Effects Detail slider needs to be set to High. Mike
  17. The file name is NOT case sensitive. The two lines need to be added to the TERRAIN section of your fsx.cfg file. They are not in the original file. The 4500 and 3000 values are what FSX uses by default. If you want to gain any benefit from this tweak you need to lower the numbers.Mike
  18. Guys,Before you go changing either of those values to 0 check out PC-12's blog again (http://blogs.technet.com/p-12c_pilot/archive/2006/10/10/Autogen-tweak-that-might-help.aspx). He has edited it to say that setting them to 0 can cause problems but that any very low non-zero number would have the same effect.Mike
  19. Howard,With the information you provided my first impression is that this is being caused by XP's embedded firewall. Try disabling it at least long enough to retest the DXDiag multiplayer test. If that works try testing SquawkBox. If that also works then you will need to either turn off XP's firewall (there are mixed opinions on whether or not that is a good idea) or set up some exception rules to allow multiplayer connections.Mike
  20. I don't know if I should shake Steve Cartwright's hand or slap him. :) After reading his tutorial I finally "got it" and can now fly FS helicopters with a reasonable degree of control. I've been flying them so much lately the wife is getting a little annoyed. (Oh well, she'll get over it. :-hah ).Back to the original question. I installed Rory Kelly's CH-53 and for some reason I have no 2D panel. I usually fly with the VC but on the 53 without the 2D panel there is no radio stack, engine controls, etc.. Looking at the panel.cfg makes me think there is no 2D panel with this A/C.Any suggestions for a replacement? Thanks,Mike
  21. I also always install the Critical Updates as soon as they are available. So far I have never had them break anything.Mike
  22. During your taxi clearance Ground probably told you to "contact Tower when ready". You taxi to the runway and then change to the Tower frequency you were given. If you are not getting the "Request takeoff clearance from Tower" option it is because you have not taxied close enough to the hold short line. If you slowly taxi closer to it the option should come up.Mike

Oh well. So much for it being something simple. x( Maybe someone on the Orbiter Forum can help.http://orbit.m6.net/v2/boardtalk.aspMike

Pete,Forgive me for asking the obvious, but when you extracted the Orbiter zip file did you tell it to "use folder names"? That log file looks like it can't find any of the textures. Mike
