How to connect issues

Featured Replies

Hi all,I am totally new to on line flying and I am learning before "diving" into it. I downloaded SB, Servinfo (and Roger Wilco). I worked the tutorials and got to the connection step where I am kind of stuck:Most of the time, I can't connect to any of the available Vatsim servers (as given by Servinfo) and I get back the msg " the specified address is not available from the local machine". Sometimes, I get "the attempt to connect was forcelly rejected". So I try again and again, switching from one available IP address (like 209.61.182.205) to another one and eventually, after giving it a try 10 or 15 times, I get connected. So my questions are:- what is the meaning of the msgs I get back when my connection fails?- how can I trick the system to get a reliable connection process ?ThksBien amicalementMichelKSEA

Just so you know...I think I found out the pb I had to get connected. It seems that the Windows function Copy/Paste does not work properly to enter the Server address in the apropiate Squawbox window. When entering in manually, the connection comes right away...Bien amicalementMichelKSEA

A little tip here!If you run Servinfo you can export a list of server ip-addresses to the file IPADDR.TXT and move that file to your SB folder. That way you'll always have a fresh server list in the combobox in SB. If you don't run ServInfo you can get it here:www.avsim.com/hangar/utils/servinfoCheers

Thanks, Mats, I believe I have finally got it figured out. Now to try to get connected.Dave HinsonWoops!! Responded to the wrong message. Too many messages from me in the loop. Oh, well, just learning. One final question: If using RW, do you need to connect to BOTH an AVSIM server and an RW server? Thanks again for the help.

>One final question: If using RW, do you need to connect to BOTH an AVSIM server and an RW server?Yepp! That's how it's done. First you connect to VATSIM using SB. If you've checked the use RW option, RW will start. There is one option in SB that automatically changes RW channel when changing ATC from the ATC directory. It is however depending on the ATC writing his RW channel in his ATIS message (The private messages you get when connecting to an ATC). I can't remember what that option is called though. At work at the moment and no FS here! (Wish I had...I'm bored...lol)Just shout if you need any further assitance :-)

Thanks again, Mats I finally got connected to VATSIM:-beerchug !!. Of course, there were no controllers in in US at the time I connected, but I used Unicom. I did have trouble with that "FSChatScroll", though...Whatever key I struck trying to operate in FS was entered in the chat scroll box and not FS. I did have FSChatScrollAutoShow (or whatever it is :9 ). Oh, well, I'll try to figure that one out. Thanks again.Dave Hinson
