SB "looking for a game"

Featured Replies

Can someone please answer a newbie problem? I set up a mulitsession game in FS2002 then ran sbhost and then sb and I can't seem to get past "Looking for Games".I've tried adding my PC's local IP address;I've disabled XP's firewall settings on both computers;I've turned off McAfee Firewall;Ane I've even (as was suggested elsewhere) turned off the messeging service in XP.But no joy!!!Can someone please point me in the right direction? I'd really like to try this out. Thanks;Gary KaneCYYZ

Gary:Let's take this methodically. You started up SBHOST. Then setup a HOSTED MULTIPLAYER session calling it saaaay "Gary Squawkbox" Then started the SB client, left the default name of "Squawkbox" then when it asked for an IP, you clicked START SEARCH, and you're coming up with nothing?I noticed you mentioned you disabled the firewall on BOTH computers. Can you elaborate? Are you also attempting to get two computers hooked together with the 2nd showing your guages or the like?

The networked machines aside for now, I've tried to set it up on one machine as you described above and still no luck, I even tried to start it out of sequence eg running SBhost and then a mulitsession in FS then the SBclient still no luck. Gary KaneCYYZ

Hi GaryHad the same problem you describe some time ago. I ran a diagnostic check on the DirectPlay tab in dxDiag (Start|Run|dxdiag) and it showed the two DirectPlay sessions (SB and FS) wasn't talking to eachother. Reinstalled DirectX on both computers and voil

Thanks Mats, but unfortunately it's the exact same version on both machines. Regards; Gary KaneCYYZ

GaryDid you try to set up a DirectPlay using the dxDiag program?Even if it is the same version of DirectX, something might be screwed up, requiring a reinstall of DirectX.Hope it helps,

Hey! Your suggestion prompted me to reinstall the new directx 9.0. It seems to have worked, rather, I was getting more action (firewall filter prompt) than I was with the previous version. I had to connect using the loop back IP address (127.0.0.1) though. I'll give it a shot on the weekend after the UM's are in bed. Thanks Mats.Gary KaneCYYZ

If you still are having problem....Create a session via IPX-protocol instead, and let SB join on the IPX instead.I had the same problem as you have, so I tried IPX instead - and it worksperfect.Best regards Bj
