Display issues Non standard 7 segments

Hello, Been messing with this for awhile and I cant figure out what the issue is. I built my display controller, flashed everything and all seems normal. Put the jumpers back to normal position..etc. At first I had the wrong 7 segment displays, so I bought some different ones P/N MAN4440A made by Fairchild. They are .4 inch displays but instead of having the pins on top like the provided PCB has it, I had to create my own PCB for the LED Displays to solder to since this display has the pins down the side of each unit. Ok no problem. Fired up my PCB creation software and made a PCB for it. I copied where each pin goes from the old PCB and matched my new PCB so that each pin is supposed to go on the display. I am building a 3 segment unit for HDG and Course on the A/P so on my PCB I left out the pins for the DP mark as I dont need it for this position. On initial start up I get the 3 dashes as I think I am supposed to get. With FSBUS router and FS2002 fired up once I turn the HDG or Course knob I lose 2 of the displays and the remaining one displays what I am guessing is the hundreds unit. The remaining lit display does not show 0 for a hdg like 090, it does show 1 for anything in the 100's 2 for 2 hundreds..etc. I have attached some jpgs so you can see what I am talking about. I am not using Project Magenta or anything like that, just standard FS and FSBUS. I am using FSBUS version 2 if that helps any, winxp home... I don't know if taking out the DP portion of the circuit screwed anything up or if I am just doing something wrong. If I try and do a display test for that CID's number nothing works there either. Maybe someone has a little light to shed? Thanks Jason

Ok a little follow up not that I really solved anything. I did verify that the display nearest the connector is displaying the hundreds value. Its kinda messed up since it should be on the other end. If I make FSBUS router put in leading 0's the other displays come back up with 0 for a value. I don't know if some how I have the LED displays backwards or what? I soldered them in the way it is supposed to hook up according to my reverse engineering of the old display boards. I have pins 5, 7, and 16 off the connector as going to the common cathode positions on the Displays. 16 pin goes to CC on the display nearest connector, 5 to the middle display and 7 to the last one. Perhaps I need to use pins off 13, 15 and 16 or K0, K1 and K2 on the schematic? ThanksJason

Ok..lol I awnsered my own question. If I change this display to the altitude display, at 16200 indicated on FS autopilot my display now reads 162. So I used the wrong set of Cathode pins off the connector. My first and second digit were reading the 10,000 and 1,000 units not the 10 and 1 units I was looking for. I am just curious if anyone else has had issues with the pcbs in the zip for the 3 segment boards if the encountered the same thing as I did. To me it looks like you use the 5 7 and 16 pin if I counted right, but when you do you get goofy results on my end. Jason

I have test with no problems the standard Fsbus display circuit. As the FsbusVer2 display test does not work, you have to test your custom made circuit with FsBus 1.3In this way you will see if there is a problem in your H/W or your FsBus configurationBest RegardsEddie ArmaosAthens-Greece

It was clear that you connected the wrong displays. You should count them from left to right starting by the highest digit. So while in altitude you need all 5 in HDG, SPD etc you just need displays 2, 1 and 0.Glad you figured it out.For the same reason, because the usual 7seg displays used by FSBUS are way too big to make a nice MCP & radios, I redesigned the boards too in order to use the KingBright SC36-11 series of Led Displays (or the HP A103). Sample attached. I haven't tested them yet. But once I do I will post the boards for others to use. The pin connector is 100% compatible with the FSBUS pinout.George DorkofikisAthens, Greece

Yeah I had figured out what I did wrong. Basically I used the wrong cc pins off the connector, After making a new pcb it seems to work as advertised. My LEDs are a little different then yours as mine have places for 7 pins down each side for a total of 14 pins. The display doesn't utilize all 14 pins, some spots are just blank. Once I get all of the pcbs made I will most likely post them as well so others can benifit from my R&D. Only problem I see now is there are a lot of different types of displays out there, so people are kinda stuck with 1 or 2 types, but I guess its better then the huge displays. Which aren't bad, I just cant use them with my fds mcp :(Ill post in a few days once I get everything working on the pcbs.Jason

HiI had the same problem with FSBUS display and 3 digits, so what i did, is just changed multiplier in the FSBUS router from 1 to 100 and changed accordingly min and max values. Leon
