Getting started with FSBUS

Featured Replies

I have read all the posts about FSBUS and have looked at the website, but I still can't figure out where to start. It seems the documentation files are not available in english and that doesn't help either!! Anyway, can anyone give me a step by step tutorial on where to start and what parts/programs, etc. I will need? I would like to start by making a radio and autopilot panel interface and then then add stuff as I learn more about it. Thanks for any help.

G'day Dave, Well first thing to do if you haven't already is to play with the Router software itself, try getting a feel for what it actually does, download the FSUIPC.SDK from Pete Dowsons site & get your head around what the FSUIPC offsets are & what they can do for you, start with something simple like looking at panel indicators, lets say the NAV lights on the aircraft in flightsim & whether they are on or off, then try assigning an LED in the router to indicate this, you should see the value in the router software change from a 0 to a 1 & of coarse if you had a LED board attached you would see the appropriate LED come on & go off.Data to & from FSUIPC comes in different formats, a good tool to see this with is the FSinterrogate.exe that comes with the FSUIPC_SDK.Dirk the designer of FSBus has provided many of the required offsets that we would want to play with in FSBus but as people build their pits they sometimes need special requirements & that is when it is good to understand how to work with FSUIPC.It is pretty hard to write a tutorial here to guide you through the process & I know the documents are hard to follow, in fact I don't think I have seen any docs yet on version 2.However you can at least play with the router without building a single piece of hardware & at least see what it does, when you define a switch it is simulated at the top of the display where you can click on it to see what it does, so you should at least be able to assign a LED & a switch in the router to say the NAV lights & turn them on & off with the simulated switch, once you are comfortable with that then move on to the Display assignments & again you can see the values extracted from FS from within the router software without the need of having an actual display board attached.Just keep in mind that you are playing with a router, you take some information & send it somewhere else, the destinations maybe another piece of harware that you build like a LED board or maybe to flightsim itself say from an FSKey Board switch, information can go to multiple destinations too, so if you flick a switch it activates a LED & also activates something in Flightsim & at the same time activates a Relay on the DO Board.I hope that makes sense. Just keep reading through the forums there are heaps of good info here on FSBus now, once you play with it a bit you will start to get the idea. By the way the first version of 2 has some things already setup in it but the latest version 2 does not come with this file, I am referring to the FSBus.fb2 file, if you don't have it then download the old version 2 to get it, that may help you along a bit.Cheers Glenn.
