November 26, 200322 yr Hi all,my name is John and i live in Athens Greece. Its the first time where i post a message in this forum and i beleave this is the ideal place for the cockpit-builder to find and give answers.I have build the FsBus Com,Key and Led PCBs and i want to make a CDU unit.I use for the display of the CDU a Black/White CRT monitor that i rip from a little and cheap movable TV.The monitor is connected to the TV-out of a Gforce256 and the tests with the demo of Project Magenta CDU ,in full screen mode, was ok.Using the FSfinder and a small number off buttons connected to the Key PCB i make the tests for all the buttons on the Project Magenta CDU. Well , here is the question, how can i use the PM FSUIPC offsets instead the keyboard emulator of FSBUS, in the Fsif.ini file there is this line:1, "Keyboard Interfaces"2, "CDU", 432, 0, 0x5428, I16,,W ,10,1,1,is this the answer ? Sorry for my English....Thanks John Dafermos.
November 27, 200322 yr Hello John, the solution is very simple, only 3 euros to buy a keyboard and to remove Printer Circuit the matrix, of rows and columns, the CDU of PM. can be assigned the function keys, (N1 LIMIT, INIT REF, DES, FIX, etc.), I include a file in Word of the matrix of my keyboard, the letters in red is unremovable, the blacks without use, and magenta the programmable, in blue the function of CDU customizable.Rafael
November 27, 200322 yr Hi Rafael ,thanks for the reply.Your solution to my problem is something that i have already made before 1 year. After the keyboard hack i build the FSBUS PCBs .The solution that i am looking ,is to communicate the FSBUS with the CDU like the way he dos with MCP or GC, via this internal offsets or BITs.If any one knows what i have to write in the Fsif.ini file or if this is a totally wrong way for my solution please tell me.RegardsJohn Dafermos
November 27, 200322 yr That's also a problem I too am looking for an answer to. I'm currently in the process of making up several FSBus cards, and was wondering how the heck I get the CDU software to interact with it, be this from FreeFD, openGC or PM. I much prefer to use the former two as they're the least costly, but there's not much documentation on integrating them with FSBus or indeed any other key input. I'd rather not use the mouse as the panels will be switched off and just the display screen will remain for obvious reasons!
November 27, 200322 yr Hello FOlks,Ok, I'll try to help.In the Project Magenta's Documentation page, you can scroll to the bottom and click where it says: "Project Magenta FSUIPC Offsets." . Then, scroll down to where it says "5428 CDU "Keyboard Interface" (2 bytes)"...There you have the information you need to address the CDU's keyboard interface. I believe that this is already addressed under FSBUS 2.0.5. There is a category named Keyboard Interfaces under PM. There, you'll see CDU. That isthe address. Then in the value field, use the ascii value of thekey as stated in the "5428 CDU "Keyboard Interface" (2 bytes)" info in PM's website.I hope it helped.By the way, Did you ever get the FSClient software to work for keyboard events on a remote computer?
November 27, 200322 yr This is really useful info, now all I have to do is configure every single key in FSBus :(Even though it's not very clear, I have kinda figured out the ascii keys, but what about the special function keys? I've no idea what they are, or how they're set for the FreeFD CDU display....But thanks for the heads-up anyway!
November 27, 200322 yr Hello. Why do you wanna use FSBUS for that? Did you have any bad experience with your hacked keyboard interface?Wouldn't you rather leave FSBUS for the neccesary things that can't be done any other way?Cheers!
November 27, 200322 yr Strange, this isn't even my topic....I decided to use FSBus as I will be using a lot of the functions available after I discovered billions more uses than I imagined! As such I decided it would be more practical to use FSBus to emulate a keyboard without actually having to break up a real one, or having to worry about numerous other bits of software needed to make it work.Having said that, I still have no idea if FSBus will integrate with the FreeFD version of the CDU properly, so we'll just have to wait and see!
November 27, 200322 yr Rafael i have already look at PM site for this , but i dont know the correct syntax in the fsif.ini .Can any one write an example for the PM CDU ?Thanks John Dafermos
November 28, 200322 yr Hi John,i live in Athens too, i have PM Boeing Software and FSBus PCBs also.Tomorrow 29/11/2003 there is the 2nd Hellenic Flightsimmers Convention in Titania Hotel in Athens.Look at : http://www.avsim.com/greece/hvacc/entrance.htm for more information.Try to find me there. I hope that we will enough free time to discuss about home cockpits :-)RegardsEddie ArmaosAthens - Greece
November 28, 200322 yr Hello Eddie,i will be there but not before 12:00, see you tomorrow .Rafael, today i connect a second pc and i run the FSClient to the second pc,but no keyboard events apears.I did't have the free time to search the reason. RegardsJohn Dafermos
December 3, 200322 yr Hi there John,You don't need to write it again in your FSIF; it's already there. You just have to use the keyboard values in the software to assign each switch a different keystroke on the CDU. About that, I haven't done any tests.
