December 5, 200322 yr I've changed my thinking a bit on my 737NG sim. I've decided to build the co-pilots side as a -300-400 series. This way I can fly both types, glass cockpit and or gauge cockpit. I got a set of -400 panels installed. Check it out my site, http://www.geocities.com/raflyer/currentse...l?1070601729543Am I crazy or is this a cool idea? Thanks,ROb

Makes it possible to fly quite a lot of GA types with the "steam" gauges as well.Tuomas
December 5, 200322 yr Nice work. It is you sim. You do what you want. And, no you are not crazy...at least, not any more than the rest of us.:)John JohnMy first SIM was a Link Trainer. My last was a T-6 IIAMD Ryzen 7 7800 X3D@ 5.1 GHz, 32 GB DDR5 RAM - 3 M2 Drives. 1 TB Boot, 2 TB Sim drive, 2 TB Add-on Drive, 6TB Backup data hard driveRTX 3080 10GB VRAM, Meta Quest 3 VR Headset
December 5, 200322 yr crazy or cool .. i think you know the answer dudecrazy obviously !!!but in a cool way ;pi like this idea very much. maybe this is a good plan for me too. if i'll ever build a "second half" to my cockpit i could make it look more like a F70 .. but then again, the pedestall and glare are different ... hmmz and i got most half of the glare, plus the entire pedestall, so for me it would require too much change but for you .. if you like em both, why not have em both !?!
December 5, 200322 yr lol, good pointwhatever you do, or whichever way you go .. people will still look at you and think of you as a freak :(i got that much experiance :(just to say something more ..you should never build your cockpit for what other people will think of it. no one will ever say that your cockpit is not cool cuz you got a combo of 2 types.you build a cockpit for you flying it and for you having fun building it (o boy, the day mine will be finished ... only flying ! no more building !! what will i doooooo !!??!! ) so just enjoy building and afterwards, being able to fly 2 different machines ... total ownage :)
December 5, 200322 yr Rob:>>Am I crazy or is this a cool idea? And exactly what is it that makes you think that has to be an either/or question? :-)Rick
December 5, 200322 yr As an aside on the issue of 737NG cockpits, I had a three hour flight on Southwest Airlines on Tuesday sitting next to one of their pilots who was deadheading to the hub at Skyharbor for work the next day. He told me that they have had company specific cockpit instrumentation made for them by Boeing for their new -700's. We were on an old -300, so he couldn't show me after we landed, but basically it's a all-glass cockpit but that shows what are basically FS type "pictures of steam gauges" rather than the visually flat instruments of a typical 737-700. This, he tells me, is because SWA has a strong company preference for their pilots hand-flying the aircraft most of the time, and wanted a traditional 'golf ball' for them to fly from.Rick
December 14, 200322 yr Cool idea, it's exactly what I am doing also. You have then the advantage of a Glass Cockpit and a Analog Cockpit :)
