FMC/CDU keyboard

Featured Replies

I was thinking (unfortunately I do this sometimes! :-) )...Most current FMC support keyboard input but there is a problem. When using a single PC that runs all the programs, probably using multiple monitors, you have to give focus to the FMC in order to use the keyboard. This creates the problem that when FS looses focus sound goes off even if the sim continues.I can think of two (2) possible solutions. To use a different keyboard, most likely USB, to control the FMC.But how can you tell the OS or FS or the FMC which keyboard to read? Can you?but even better ...To use one Int16 offset in FSUIPC which the FMC will read and to which you can write the decimal value of the ascii character or a special code for the function keys. This way the FMC won't need to have the focus. It will just need to scan FSUIPC for keypresses.Does this sound logical? How come nobody thought of it yet?George DorkofikisAthens, Greecehttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/betaimg.jpg

>I was thinking (unfortunately I do this sometimes! :-) )...Yeah, I'd wish people would do that more often ;-)>Does this sound logical? How come nobody thought of it yet?In general: interfacing via FSUIPC is much more elegant then the clumsy keyboard solution, so yes this sounds logical. Every ICT specialist will tell you that. However, I guess that the market of home simpit builders is just to small to be of commercial interest for the companies that sell panels ... :-(You're specific example: be aware that you do need some type of protocol to deal with wanted and unwanted key-repeat's, but that could be done for instance by letting the reading process, clear the Int16 offset after it has read the code. One thing that still remains then is that the reading process should scan faster then people can type.Regards,Nicowww.nicokaan.nlfc.php?vatsim=814584&indicator=OD1&a=pic767.jpg
