September 12, 200520 yr Hi everyone!I am just about to start working on a series of GoFlight-styled SAAB 105 panels. However, I hope I am not getting into something I can't finish. I have never done anything like this before, but I am really excited about it.I am planning on buying the Hagstrom KE72 with two breakers. I have a friend who works with creating signs and display casings, who will help me create the front panels and the casing for it all. So far so good. The soldering and the programming seems fairly simple, at least that is the impression I've got.I have very limited experience in soldering and working with electronics, though. Basically, I've just replaced a few broken components in my Hotas Cougar. I am a bit worried that I'll buy switches that I can't use. These are the switches I was thinking of.TRIM CONTROLS - SPDT ON-OFF-ON PADDLE SWITCH http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/cate...-116&type=store PANEL & INSTRUMENT LIGHTING - ON/OFF ROTARY SWITCH W/ KNOBhttp://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/cate...-136&type=storeMOTOR STARTERS - JUMBO PUSHBUTTON, GREENhttp://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/cate...-214&type=storeSPST ON-OFF TOGGLE SWITCH http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/cate...S-26&type=storeDPDT ON-OFF-ON TOGGLE SWITCH http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/cate...S-24&type=storeThe panel layout looks like the pic below, and I am thinking of having the labels backlit with some form of LED-light through a two-layer plastic. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.http://www.paravoid.se/msfsprojects/panel11.jpgWhat do you think? Thanks!Roger
September 12, 200520 yr Btw, here is a picture of the real cockpit. http://www.paravoid.se/msfsprojects/realpanel.jpgThe parts I am mainly replicating are the switches on the black panel on the left and the switches on the center floor panels.
September 12, 200520 yr And, I just found these that I would like to use for the low pressure fuel pump switches, which are the wasp striped switches on each side of the warning panel:http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cata...%5Fid=275%2D601
September 12, 200520 yr I am also considering adding a fresnel lens, either a whole kit by Icetek or some variant from http://www.3dlens.com. The latter is really cheap, but I am curious as to their quality.Any thoughts or opinitions on these? Thanks!Roger

September 12, 200520 yr Great tip! I just found them. They also have lighted switches, although that is a bit unrealistic. Still, it might be useful in a dark room.Oh, and yes, I live in Sweden, in Gothenburg to be more specific... Thus all the Swedish labels. Thanks! :)

We use them in our C172 sim:http://gallery.tigert.com/tigert-albums/al...2/aaa.sized.jpghttp://aerodome.net/gallery-kuvat/album21/IMG_4965.sized.jpgMycket bra att det finns mer skandinaviska byggare :)//Tuomas
September 13, 200520 yr Great Cessna panel there Tuomas!I bought the switches with safe guards from Biltema today. Now I am looking for a momentary paddle switch that has three positions and that will spring back from the upper and lower positions to the center (off). I thought I'd use this for trimming the aircraft, similar to the SK60's original arrangement for trimming. Has anyone seen anything like it?Thanks!Roger

September 13, 200520 yr Thanks for all the advice Tuomas! I really appreciate it.Sounds good, but they're really very expensive aren't they about 10$ each. I've found similar switches at Radio Shack, All Electronics and Electronic Goldmine for almost a fifth of that price. Also, I want it to spring back to the center position and have a momentary function when I push it upwards or downwards. I don't want it to snap to the up or down positions.Cheers,Roger

I've found similar switches at Radio Shack,>All Electronics and Electronic Goldmine for almost a fifth of>that price.Yea, that's ELFA :-P They are expensive. * www.reichelt.de - German webstore, cheaper* www.conrad.de - Another german site, LOTS of stuff, but not cheap. It's a matter of finding stuff you can use from the cheap places, but sometimes one needs to either do stuff by hand or then order things from a more expensive site. This is the similar switch than the Elfa one, it cost a bit less on Partco.fi - but I dont think they sell internationally.http://tigert.com/aviation/vatsim/cockpit-.../alapaneeli.jpg(the panel is made with FrontDesign, www.schaeffer-ag.de)The smaller toggle switches can be found a lot cheaper, that's one option too. >Also, I want it to spring back to the center position and have>a momentary function when I push it upwards or downwards. I>don't want it to snap to the up or down positions.Yeah. The (ON)-OFF-(ON) ones snap back (the parentheses!) - ON-OFF-ON do stay in position.//Tuomas
September 14, 200520 yr Hi there Roger,How nice to have another SAAB Aircraft builder, we are a growing group in Sweden as it seems,
September 14, 200520 yr Hi to the both of you, Tuomas and Johan. Great to see the huge amount of talent you apparently have! :)As you may have gathered, this will only be a simple desktop panel, similar to GoFlight's Full Height Rack. It will be backlit and maybe a led on top of the panel, facing down, similar to the panel lighting in the SK60.The panels will have roughly the same switch layout as FSQuality's SAAB 105 addon, for which I made a Swedish version some time ago. It is slightly different than the original Swedish panels, but it works ok.My biggest problem right now, is to fit all the switches I want into panels that have the same width as GoFlights modules. Especially the uppermost panel is hard to fit with standard toggle switches. Do you think mini toggles will work better?I am also having some problems finding the switches I need, some I can't find and some are too expensive. It is also a bit difficult to understand the descriptions sometimes, since they are often incomplete. What I am looking for is the following.15 off-on toggle switches (mini?)3 on-off-on toggle (mini?)2 (on)-off-(on) momentary toggle switches (mini?)2 off-(on) momentary push buttonshttp://www.paravoid.se/msfsprojects/panel12.jpgOh, and my german is really bad...Once again, thanks for all the advice!Roger
September 15, 200520 yr Geez, www.conrad.de really had a lot stuff! :) A bit tricky finding the right categores, though. The two ones that are the hardest to find aremomentary toggle switch (on)-off-(on)rotary switch off-onIf anyone has seen these, I'd be really grateful. I have found one rotary that might work.
