Two keyboards on same PC

Featured Replies

Hi all,Does anyone know how FS reacts when two (2) keyboards are installed onto the same PC? That is one PS2 normal keyboard and one USB keyboard. Thanks,George DorkofikisAthens, Greecehttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/811520/1704.png

Pc responds on both --hope thats helps

If the PC responds to both and, for example, you can type half characters on one and half on the other (a la Matrix!), then there should be no problem with FS, should it?...The reason I'm asking is because I plan to hack a USB keyboard and use it for FMC hardwiring the FMC function and LSK keys to some control-shift-char sequence. That way, I hope, I will be able to use the FMC with all aircraft that have keyboard input mode for the FMC.Sounds crazy ?George DorkofikisAthens, Greecehttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/811520/1704.png

Hi George,I use a hacked PS2 keyboard-chip and cable connected to my selfbuild FMC-keyboard. The matrix of the keyboard-chip (lines and rows) is wired to the keys of the FMC. This sends the keystrokes a,b,c ... 1, 2, 3 ... F1, F2 ... etc. to the PC via the Hagstrom KE72-encoder, to witch my switches are connected also. The KE72 has a PS2 connector, witch is plugged to a USB Converter. So the keys and the switches go from USB to the PC. My normal keyboard is connected to the PC with the PS2-keyboard-connector. This works fine.It should be no problem to connect 2 PS2-keyboards with an Y-cable or to connect a PS2 keyboard and a USB keyboard or 2 or 3 USB-keyboards.Only problem is, that you can use only single characters this way. control-shift-char sequences are not possible. Therefore I progammed the LSK's and function-keys to F1 - F10 and 0 -9 on main keyboard and the numeric keys of the FMC to 0 - 9 on numeric keypad. The letters are a - z. In the LDS767 keyboard assignment this keys are assigned to the respective FMC-keys. The letter-keys and numeric keys are send to Key2mouse and produce mouse-clicks on the FMC. Or you activate the keyboard assist function first and the letters are automatically sent to the FMC.Certainly you cannot use the same letters for normal FS-commands and have to delete or reassign them in the FS9.cfg to control-, shift- keys.A good solution you can also find on Nico Kaan's homepage.Tony

Thats slightly of topic ,George but i wont to share some thoughts with youAs we know the LVL-D fms now has keyboard assighments to fsuipc offsetsSo why not use IOcards master card wich has 72 inputs just enought for fms and connect that to LPT port? And the fsbus connected to com will not be affectedAs a bonus you still have 64 outputs --could be used for leds and additional displaysI kit form thats realy cheap solutionRegards

Hi guys,Indeed a much better solution, although I recommend to buy a USB card as well (is not expensive). LPT is very old technology, in a few years from now you cannot even buy PC's with LPTs I guess. With the SDK/FSCONV solution via FSUIPC offsets you can type mode less (no KA needed) and even when the main panel has no focus...I already have received my third Master Card and I will replace my good old KE72 by this MC shortly... The extra 45 outputs of this MC I can use very well to complete my overhead and MIP. And rumours are that even the FMC EXEC light will be in the SDK begining of November, so ...! And that is keyboard,or maybe I will put a secret switch to enable/disable the keyboard circuit. That would require one extra PCB, but will give max functionality. The problem will be to translate the normal matrix to the one that the keyboard circuit expects... Oh well... Who said it would be easy ?! :LOL>I already have received my third Master Card and I will>replace my good old KE72 by this MC shortly... I have a spare FSKey that I can build for that purpose.George DorkofikisAthens, Greecehttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/811520/1704.png
