Wow, prices start from 5,000 pounds. That's just for the platform, you still have to build the cockpit.I hope to have 2 dof (you can have 3dof, it just takes some extra home engineering) fully enclosed, with Analogue guages, MCP, xpdr etc, (hope to also have autothrottles) for about $1,000AUD.I do remember looking at this site when I was doing my research into motion bases. I don't like the idea that you have to pay a membership fee to view the diy area, it's about $110 AUD just for membership. The Primus struck me as the easiest way to get started at a cost that wouldn't cost me my marriage.I even researched hydralics, pneumatics and so on. All very costly.Hope this info help a little.David

I wouldn't sell them for that, that's just materials. I am spending a lot of time building it all myself. So yeah, it's true. I build all my interface cards, and all my panels I build on my CNC machine (which I built myself for around $150AUD including motors and drivers). The time that is going into building it is huge. It took about 10 months to build the CNC machine just to make the panels. If you feel the post lacked a little realism, sorry you felt that way. Just giving you my opinion, I don't really need to have you believe me.David

I've probably spent over

Slightly off-topic, but still...150AUS for a homebuilt CNC? WOW!Where did you get your parts?I want to make one myself, but all the parts alone are so expensive.I'm not affraid of some hand-work,so there are no large prebuilt structures I need...And yet I can't find it that cheap.Would you like to help me out?

First of all, you could check out www.cnczone.com lots of information and free plans to DIY.I build mine using the steel rods out of large plotter machines and their respective brass bushings (not the total ideal), did lots of research on the net and looked at other peoples ideas and slowly came up with my own design.I called upon the local dump shop often for strange and unusual bits.I have 2 138oz/in stepper driving the x and y and 80oz/in driving the Z (which a friend gave me, lucky me). I have a dremel multipro for the cutter. It allows me to cut the panels and also engrave for backlighting. I am also using it to make Korry replicas I've designed (with a little help and contribution from others on this forum) for the MCP I've built. The drivers I built from free plans at www.pminmo.com.If you look on the descrete.htm page, you can see pictures of my boards there. Cost next to nothing to build, worked first time. The thing that took the longest was alignment of the surface and cutter. Lots of fiddling and minor adjustments then retesting and so on.It was very rewarding (and frustrating) building it and now knowing it works. It costs next to nothing to make panels, annunciators, korrys and so on.I'm trying to work out how to make a commercial aircraft yoke for a 777 on it. There is always a way, just have to think of it.Hope the info helps. If you need more, just ask.DavidAnd Chris, chill man, if you don't like my answers, just walk away. Challenging them only makes you appear limited in you ability to think laterally. Remember, all things are possible if you beleive they are.

DD44,Sorry, I never did try and answer the question. There was much discussion on motion platforms with links to several other vendors earlier this year. The post was titled 'motion platform' and was dated May 25th.What is you sim? This will be the biggest factor in whether the Classic Flight product is suitable or not. It looks like a reasonable piece of kit for

Hi DavidI have a (rather cheap but very good) CNC machine. A CNC hobbyist build it for me (made by a big CNC machine, and after one night drilling the little baby was born).I have all my panels ready at the moment, now working on the plexibackers to hold the korry switches, and already made a lot of korries.Do you have a website? It is always good to see someoneelse's work to gather some idea's.Pics are on my site under "panels".RegardsNorberthttp://home.wanadoo.nl/norbert.bosch

Thank you very much for all your comments! The 5000

>Dont know how you can come up with a price as high as>4000

You're absolutely right Chris! But remember... this is supposed to be a "DIY" price given by classic flight.. If I ever build this platform (and I want to..)I 'll do it from the scratch. However I 'll try to find used material to cut the prices, plus I already got all the tools I need (welding set, drill press etc..)
