November 20, 200520 yr I had this question many weeks ago, but now reading another post, i will ask it:Which method is the best for make instruments : servos or steppermotors ? Where else can i use the one or the other?I have some old analog instruments or i could make my own (?), like 737Flaps and Overhead gauges, but i can't understand the difference between these two.thanksEddie ArmaosAthens-Greece
November 20, 200520 yr Servos are limited to less than 360 dergees movement, suitable for instruments like flaps, VSI, IAS etc.Servos know it's position by the self, no need for extra componentsStepper motors can turn endless, useful for altimeter, heading etc.Stepper motors don't know position, need external sensor to know where 0-point is, then it calculate steps to get to wanted position

November 20, 200520 yr Which of the both ,Servos or Stepper motors are more precise in the movement. If we want to use them for the thrust levers which is the best solution? And both makes small steps?Lambis Greece
November 22, 200520 yr DC motor for the torque to drive the mechanism. And a potentiometer on each lever for position feedback.Brendan
November 23, 200520 yr Can you give more details on how to use these dc motors.I have a collection of dc Servo motors with encoders on the back and I'm not sure how to use them for this purpose.David
