White 7 Segment LEDs - Mass Order

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, In case you haven't seen, Forge Europa has released some really beautiful white 7 segment LEDs. We used these to convert a real 757/767 radio comm panel, along with a Go Flight RMK-166, and the result was absolutely amazing. The ones we got were gray faced before, but now they have white segments with a black face as an option. A few of us are ordering these for our sims, however they need an order quantity around 100+. So anyone else who is seriously interested, please let me know. Another individual has made available boards that allow the LEDs to be mounted and wired with minimal effort. So basically, it is now possible to make a fully functional radio comm panel.Roberthttp://www.777Simulator.com

Hi Robert,>Another individual has made available boards that allow>the LEDs to be mounted and wired with minimal effort. So>basically, it is now possible to make a fully functional radio>comm panel. That's nice, but I don't understand why you say that it is now possible? With a Opencockpits Mastercard, 1 Display Card, and 3, 4 or 5 7-segment PCB boards plus Yellow 7-segment led displays this is already possible for a number of years. Look at my website for example to my NAV1, COMM1, ADF, ILS and XPDR.So I don't see why this is new...Best Regards,Nicowww.nicokaan.nl1704.png

Hi Robert and Nico,Would you guys give me some suggestion of some user friendly broad for driving the 7 segment LED and connect it to FS2k4.I am very interested to display the engine readings, temperature, heading, speed, altitude from the fs2k4 output by using small white LED. Please give me some advice. Appreicate your help!!!Alkitwww.alkit.net

I understand... I also have pictures posted of my radio comm panel functional with Red LEDs. However, I'm speaking specifically about white LED technology. There are differences from what I understand, and older boards that we tried required rewiring.Robert

As Niko pointed out, there are certainly various options for connecting your radios. For my sim, I have chosen the Go Flight board. It is completely plug and play, and is now compatible with the factory dual concentric Grayhill encoders found on most real radios. No programming necessary, and it works for radios as well as transponder.Roberthttp://www.777Simulator.com

there is a small difference:white leds often require a higher voltage... this changes the values of your resistors...Say you have red leds: U = 1.8V, I = 20mA.Now assuming that the supply voltage is 12V, you get this:(9 - 2)V / 0,02A = 350OhmIf you'd take white leds, the voltage goes up to about 4V.Then this is what you should take as resistor:(9 - 4)V / 0,02A = 250OhmYour leds would just be dimmer if you didn't change the resistor, but if you want the full potential, you'll have to replace this.AFAIK there are no other differences. If you had to make more modifications, it's possible that you had common cathode before, and now common anode, or the other way around.

7 segment LEDs frequently come in different size "packages" with different pin-outs. Some have 10 pins, while others have 14 pins, with 0.05" or 0.1" spacing, plus the electrical arrangement of the anode and cathode connections differs as well.Maybe the difference in pin connections is what Robert was referring to when required to rewire. If anyone is interested I have a very limited number of 0.4" size white LEDs with black face mounted to a professionally made pcb with plug in connector. The pcb holders will bolt straight into FDS MCPs. These are left over from my own MCP. Email me for photos and details.Peter.peter at sagarair dot com dot au
