23" LCD Widescreen HDTV Monitors

Featured Replies

Does anybody know if the above monitor will work with MSFS & the PMDG 747-400 software recently released? I'm wandering if the software presentation on the monitor will give me a 'boxed' view or in other words, a square view instead of a full 'widescreen' view.Regards, jack

I forgot to add that the monitor in question is advertised as a 1366 X 768 resolution and DVI-HDCP input.Regards again, jack

The resolution is not "standard resolution" and if your card does not support it, or if the monitor didn;t come with a special driver set, you can only use whatever display modes the monitor itself offers.Usually these monitors have several stretching modes so they can can take a standard res image (PC or TV etc.) and spread it over the entire screen using a smart stretching algorithm which increases the distortion gradually from the center towards the horizontal edges. This ensures that @30% of teh center is undistorted and the edges take the distortion "hit" a bit more. They are very good at doing this - you ALMOST never notice it. The effect might be more pronnounced in FS when you look at the scenery/panel etc. where straight lines and round gauges may show differently than in "reality". It pays to take your PC to the store and make the test yourself and decide. No amount of forum help can replace what you can see with your own eyes :-)I am sure that the store will be more than happy to let you test this and find a reasonable solution for you, as part of their sales efforts.

Thanks for the reply Al. I think most stores have a 15 day return at no charge associated with their return goods policy so maybe I'll purchase one and if it doesn't meet my expectations, return it to the store for full credit if in fact they honor such a thing.Regards, jack

Bear in mind also that that is a relatively low resolution for a PC and on a 23" screen may appear pixelated.

>Bear in mind also that that is a relatively low resolution>for a PC and on a 23" screen may appear pixelated.Excellent point! People rush in to buy 19" and 20" monitors only to find out that some are still 1280x1024! What a farce!
