EPIC SYSTEM!

Featured Replies

Hey guys this is amazing an EPIC system for like 1/10th of it

Hmm. Mr. Epic sells his EPIC. A good sign to move on to something different? :) A whole lot of stuff for a good price though.//T

Well, not entirely. I still have my main EPICUSB which I will end up keeping after about 6 months of cussing and swearing. It turned out to be my own programming that was causing all the trouble. The items that were for sale here were all part of my 777 overhead panel. Due to the sheer volume of switches, lights and wires, I decided to move to a unique combination of PMSystems, Phidgets, and KeySim, (KeySim takes any keyboard or keyboard encoder module and sends data directly to FSUIPC or through WideFS.) KeySim is a member of the EllieSystems family, Doing so has reduced the overhead system complexity by roughly 50% I may never completely part with EPIC... given everything out there today, EPIC remains the most flexible and expandible. Yep. I guess every solution has both pros and cons. Such is life. The SimBoards (http://www.flightdecktechnology.com/detail/SIM-boards) seem interesting too (especially their configuration software, wow) - the first setup I have seen where you can use the easy software to set functions - and you can write custom code using the same software for more customized logic. Has anyone tried these? Comments? But it's a constant wrestling of what you already have, and dont want to re-wire and reconfigure everything again. Such a pain :)Luckily there are moments of satisfaction too :)//Tuomas

Comments? Yes...very good customer service response time...I asked a question about compatability wity the software suite I am writing called FSLink. I asked about joystick support (as in sending joystick button pulses by flipping a switch). They responded in less than 2 hours on a saturday with a detailed explanation about their upcoming SDK for their software to talk via Windows Event Mesaaging (a basic API function in windows for software to talk to other software not built in) and that with that, I might be able to tailor my program to utilize their built in functionality, but for now I'd ahve to wait to see how to accomplish it via code.No biggie, but they also said that they would look into adding in the functionality of joystick events sooner or later, once they got the SDK out and the website documentation updated.I expected a response within the next day, but not the same day a few hours later. They are busy with the documentation and are probably getting lots of letters from people asking stupid questions as every developer of anything receives. They are also busy with getting their main products back in stock by 2 weeks from now. Its the quick response that tells me they are dedicated to helping those who use and who will possibly use their systems.I am highly considering switching from my EPIC system concept to their system. It is much cheaper, easier to configure much like the popular SIOC from what I can see, as well as the ability to use custom VB-script code to do special functions and even a way to send events to a more advanced program that handles the events from switches. In my case, I have already changed my FSLink Client and Server software from the ground up to allow this new access, I am only waiting on the SDK to allow the server to see and respond to the SimBoards hardware events.Any questions about ability, talk to them. They are very responsive and the hardware has a lot of potential with easy software with very advanced features for special uses that aren't contained in Project Magenta. If you don't plan on using PM as your display and system software, then this is almost a DUH statement. Very good functionality and great cost.Just my $.02

>If you don't plan on using PM as your display and system>software, then this is almost a DUH statement. Very good>functionality and great cost.Well, I wont need PM now, since I am not interested in airliners at all.The interface stuff and the configuration software impressed me a lot (I installed it and it was very simple to figure out, plus the custom script interface was nice). The price was quite high, but if the quality meets the first impression, it's a good alternative. I will probably stick with iocards with this twin ga sim, but those things do look very interesting, got to keep them in mind.//Tuomas
