August 29, 200619 yr While googling around, I came across this radio stack as part of a setup that includes the older gameport driven CH Virtual Pilot Yoke, some sort of Throttle Quad and this radio stack. It appears to be from training system, but the seller has ZERO information on it, no books/drivers/etc. I couldn't care less about the other parts, but I'm trying to figure out if the radio stack is worth picking up. Unfortunately, without being able to ID it, I can't really find out any info on it to see if it's something that's supportable with modern sims, etc.If anyone can ID this, please let me know. From what I can make out on the bottom of the image it says:"Interactive Computing (and I THINK it says Switzerland)" and then "Avionics Panel - Electronic IFR Training Environment"--Mikehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/154889.jpg
August 29, 200619 yr What we now know as Elite was originally called "Initiative Computing" (sure that's not what it says instead of "Interactive Computing") and that must be their first generation radio stack.Here...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/154920.jpgIs a picture of their second generation unit, the AP2000. The family resemblance is clear.I have the software still for the AP2000/AP3000, and it doesn't have options for this earlier unit. That doesn't mean that it won't work with it, or that you can't find another way to drive it.Richard
August 29, 200619 yr Hi Mike!!It should say "Initiative Computing AG, Switzerland"The baby is the avionics panel from the ELITE flightsimulator. Both, the sim and the panel are very expensive. This panel is about 12 years old, I have one at home for my own...On bottom of the panel should be a sticker with a serial No.If you need more information of useability with other programs, go to this page and ask for information:http://www.flyelite.ch/en/products/hardware_avionics.phpThere you can see the new panels to date... The present panels are compatible with FS, I'm afraid that the old ones are not - but not sure...Hope that helps a little bit.Best from ViennaHans G. August 29, 200619 yr Thanks guys! I appreciate your responses. I'll have to fire off an e-mail to the company and see if it's something that's still useable. The price is certainly right on it, but I don't want to waste my time if it's going to be impossible to drive and use.--Mike
August 29, 200619 yr You're welcome!Please give us feedback, whether unit is useable or not!Best from ViennaHans G. SchuetzProject777---------------------------------------http://www.project777.com[email protected](LOWW - Vienna)
August 29, 200619 yr Well, this is the reply I got.... Doesn't sound encouraging...-------------------Hello, Mike:I know this radio stack will not work with Microsoft. The radio stack inyour picture actually pre-dates even our old AP1000. Your unit is about tenyears old. You may want to see if it will even work with the ELITE softwarethese days. I think it will, but you may want to contact ELITE tech supportat 407.277.7803 and ask Calvin. Good luck!Tim CrowleyELITE-------------------I haven't called Calvin yet. Debating if it's worth it. I'm mainly looking for MSFS capability. IF this thing is 10+ years old, then we're talking at BEST FS5 was out at that time which puts us back in the DOS era or so. I suspect the unit interfaces through the Serial + Game ports, so while it might be possible to cobble together a working driver that would do something with the deck, it's beyond my level of experience (I do Java programming for a living, I avoid C/C++ like the plague and device drivers are ICK!)I found the unit at: http://shop.vendio.com/jackselectronics/it...2/?s=1156068001The only reason I was even considering it is because the $99+21.95 S/H price tag just seemed way too good to be true and be great for tinkering. I just am not willing to tinker that much if there's little hope of being able to make it work.Oh well... Guess my dreams of a radio/AP stack will have to stay just that... dreams....If one of you guys decides to pick it up and give it a go, let me know. I'd be interested in hearing if you can make it do anything.--Mike
August 30, 200619 yr Hi,that's what I expected...But there are a lot other radio/AP modules out there.Go Flight, CPFlight ... just to name a few ...Best from ViennaHans G. SchuetzProject777---------------------------------------http://www.project777.com[email protected](LOWW - Vienna)
August 30, 200619 yr Yes, but unfortunately they are all a bit outside my current budget range which is why this one seemed so appealing. Oh well...Thanks for your help!--Mike
August 30, 200619 yr Depends on the cost, If that unit costs anything more than $200 I would check out "Go flight".But a Nav Radio is a must IMO.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
September 3, 200619 yr If you don't mind a bit of work, you might be able to replace the interface side of this with something like a Beta Innovations Cyclotron. From my count (15 rotaries, 32 button / switch inputs) the Cyclotron would provide just enough inputs. The push button / switches would be no problem electronically, the only trick would be if the box is using rotary encoders for the knobs. If so, for a little over $130 more and a bit of soldering you'd have a nice, relatively inexpensive working setup.
