October 14, 200619 yr I received the GoFlight MCP Pro a couple of weeks ago and I am very pleased with it. In general, nearly all problems have been down to pilot error, and I am still learning the intricacies of the beast. When making large changes in settings I have found it necessary to rotate the knobs relatively slowly, or the GoFlight display freezes for a couple of seconds while it catches up. Apart from that, all is going well. The unit can be free standing, it is plug-in and go, and pricing seems very reasonable especially when compared with the earlier Aerosoft offering. It supports FS2004 aircraft using the default autopilot ( but without all the extras such as LNAV/VNAV of course) and the PIC737 and Level-D 767 (both with full support) and also interfaces with Project Magenta. PMDG support is apparently being developed. An associated EFIS control panel release is imminent.I am enjoying it so much with the 737 and 767 FS2004 products that I have quite overlooked the announcement of some new FS edition which is apparently exciting/enraging folks on the other forums here :)This product won't be of much interest to those of you master-craftsmen who can make their own panels with meticulous accuracy, but it is a great way of getting flying quickly with a step change in realism.--Bryn
October 25, 200619 yr Hi Bryn. 1.Just wanted to know wich planes you tryed the MCP-Pro from GO on and how it worked out for you.If you could go into some details it would be great with all pro and cons.2.Have you tryed the new EFIS too, from GO ?regards Bebob
November 1, 200619 yr Author Not much I can add to the original message. The stock FS planes work with the same limited controls as provided in FS itself, whereas the PIC737 and Level-D 767 use all of the functions of the MCP Pro. I didn't try any other add-ons.I don't have the EFIS unit. One or two folks have got them but I believe they are in very short supply.I don't have FSX yet so I can't comment on how it works with the MCP Pro.Hope this helps--Bryn
November 7, 200619 yr I've been thinking of getting one. $900 in Australia :(Can you tell me whether it feels solid and well made or a little cheap feeling?Do the knobs have a bit of resistance when you turn them or do they spin really quick and loosely? How about the vertical speed dial. Does it feel a little firm or loose? What about the paint job and lettering? Thanks for any comments you may have.
November 7, 200619 yr Have the Goflight MCP Pro ,I use it ,and it works fine ,it is basically the GF-MCP reboxed ,and I definately like it much better than the GF-MCPthe down side is some functions not supported due to Microsoft Flight Sim issue not Goflight, lettering, knobs and overall finish is OK ,not "WOW" but pretty darn close, unit is not backlit (I rigged some LEDs to light the the panel)some buttons "feel" so-so not the solid "click" I would have liked but it is definately a big plus to any cockpit and fun to use on a flight, for the money, it is probably the best your are going to get without breaking the bank.If you want that cockpit feeling of punching buttons, I have to recommend it as another expensive and necessary addon to our ever-longing need to emulate sitting in a real cockpit.
November 7, 200619 yr Author I agree with everything you say Sea Hawk, although I feel there is more to it than just an GF-MCP reboxed, because of all the extra switches and indicators, allowing all these exotic FLCHG LNAV and VNAV functions which never quite work the way I am expecting (pilot error again).I wouldn't let a 5 year old loose on the buttons and knobs - it feels like a fairly delicate piece of kit.Anyone know what the overall width of a "real" MCP is? I get the feeling the GF is slightly undersize, but then I can't get a real 747 in my computer room even if I take the wings off first.JuiceRabbit - I agree 900AUD is a bit high - 15% more than UK. I considered buying from the States which would have been a bit cheaper even after factoring in shipping, duty and VAT (GST), but I decided to buy from a trusted UK vendor RC Simulations who I knew would support me if it didn't work correctly when received. It still looks like a competitive price compared with other commercial MCPs.--Bryn
