Any spaceship/futuristic simpits...?

Featured Replies

Anyone know of any links to a futuristic/spaceship simpit/bridge that anyone has done...?Also, I had a link before to someone who had converted his attic/loft to a simpit area, anyone know where that was?Best sources for pictures of simpits to get ideas...?

http://www.cryogenesys.com/sim/http://www.unistellar.com/ <--- This site used to have pictures of a very elaborate multi-person spacecraft sim. The site's evolved and I can no longer find the pictures. However, you might be able to use the internet archive to locate them. Go back 3 or 4 years.http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/orbit.html <-- This is the main site for the Orbiter space flight sim application. A few people have posted on its forum information about Space Shuttle sims. There have been a smattering of spaceflight sim sites over the years, but they appear to be rather shortlived. The "Audrey" space ship sim on unistellar.com was by far the most elaborate, and it seems to be gone. None of the spaceflight sims have or had the detail and polish of the high end aircraft sims being built today. This is an area that would be a lot of fun to expand. Of course, what we need are space flight simulation applications that can be built upon: supporting hardware and software interfacing. Mikewww.mikesflightdeck.comwww.mikesflightdeckbooks.com

Thanks Mike, much appreciated.

Stating that Orbiter doesn't have the detail and polish of the flightsims ... ? Have you ever used Orbiter ? Have you checked the add-ons ?I did and I have to admit that it's in a stage +/- like FS2000 rather than FSX, but still ... it's loads of fun and highly realistic on flying & manouvering.Another great website is this:http://www.shuttlesim.be/It has a link to yet another sim software which used to be called "S3" (Space Shuttle Simulator) but now has evolved. This sim is all about the space shuttle and nothing else and has very realistic panel/button/switch opperations.

Indeed,I have a working space shuttle panel at home, but that one panel should evolve into a full cockpit in the next years.-Toine

The series version is built mostly out of salvaged aircraft parts like Boeing 737 control columns and a throttle quadrant, and the ship's operation is similar to operating a real-world aircraft. However, the flight deck is roomier (about 12ft across, 15 ft fore-aft), and the ship features more complex systems including a provisionary stardrive. If you want to do spaceflight the realistic way, Orbiter is the way to go, but the possible major drawback is the enormous travel times you'll be encountering (the same problem real space explorers face). I don't think a lot of people will want to spend 3 days locked in their sim to simulate a full mission from launch to re-entry.
