August 17, 200223 yr Im about to upgrade to a new graphics card. Im giving the card I have, a Geforce 3 to a friend of mine and for the last few years apart from when i had a Voodoo 3 card Ive always gone for Nvidia as the cards were the fastest etc. Now Im just about to buy one for my PC and I see that ATI is releasing a new card next week and I will be able to get hold of one in say 2 weeks time. Its a ATI 9700 pro (R300) which according to some benchmarks Ive seen is 40-50 percent quicker than a Geforce 4 4600 at high res and with anti aliasing which is how I like to play FS2002 etc. Now the NV30 isnt due out for another few months yet and Im seriously thinking about getting this ATI card. Now the thing that is kind of making me think is the fact that Ive never had an ATI card before so its really for you guys that have ATI cards to say whether its worth it. What are the drivers like for ATI cards etc. Id be most welcome to inputs on both sides of the fence. I just want to be sure that Im not going to have funny problems with drivers etc or with other niggly things. Thanks for your time people.Craig Kiltie
August 23, 200223 yr In the past, ATI's drivers haven't been too good. There have been some rather serious problems with some ATI cards and Flightsim 2002, however it sounds like ATI might be getting its act together with this new card. If I were you, I'd wait for some advice from people who actually use the card on an every day basis and get input and opinions from them before I buy it though. Since it's brand new, it might have some bugs that need to be shaken out. Tim Kotula
