October 29, 200223 yr I have an Atlhon XP 1800 with a GlobalWin heatsink/fan on it. I'm looking for something that will make a little less noise (maybe a Shop-Vac, or a leaf blower). Any recommendations on a quiet fan?Thanks,-Frank
October 31, 200223 yr Frank,I had a similar (loud) problem with my cooling fan. Rather than replacing the cooler, which was doing its thermal job okay, I added a bracket from the top of the fan to a convenient location in the tower's case. I did this to damp out the vibration that was causing the bulk of the noise. I suppose I could have tried a number of other fans, looking for one that was balanced better, but I figured I'd try this first. The noise level dropped substantially.Mikewww.mikesflightdeck.com
October 31, 200223 yr Depends what GlobalWin HSF you have currently.I had a FOP38 which screemed, I think the fan speed was in the high 6,000rpm mark.I recently replaced it with a Thermaltek Volcano9 which has an 80mm fan and does not need to run as fast so the noise is less and of lower pitch so is not as annoying.Mike's suggestion is also a good one as long as you are sure the fan provides enough air and force to keep the CPU cool.HTH
November 5, 200223 yr >Thermaltek Volcano9 I use the same, and it's a lovely quiet thing - currently running at just over 4200 rpm with CPU temp 40
November 6, 200223 yr I have a Volcano CPU fan and the noise is too much for me. I'm looking at purchasing this CPU cooler:http://www.quietpc.com/cpucooling.phpRichard

I think that's the same little buzzsaw I have. MBM is clocking it at just under 6900 RPM.I'm going to pick up one of the normal-looking QuietPC fans. I've got too many wires in the way for the big flower heatsink.-Frank
