January 11, 200323 yr Hi allI just discovered a really nasty problem. I currently have three computers connected in a network with a linux router on end. THe last computer connected the other week. When flying online tonight the mouse on my main FS PC became very sluggish. Not responding at times and freaking out at other times. FS2002 ran just fine though. After some trouble shooting I turned my new computer off and the stuttering of the mouse on my main one disappeared.Does any of you guys have something of a clue of what could be interfering between these two comps? I also would like to ask if someone has a good link for a free network sniffer. I thought I should investigate the traffic between the two PCs. I can't see traffic on my switch though so it may be to no avail.Specs:Main PCDell Dimension XPS B800r 800MHz/384MbgeForce3 128Mb3Com Fast EtherLink XL (3C905B-TX)TCP/IP, IPX/SPX and NetBIOS supportWin98SE with all patchesNew PCCompaq Presario 5676 450MHz/128MbRage LT ProIntel 21143/2 based ethernet controllerTCP/IP, IPX/SPX and NetBIOS supportWin98SE with all patchesHope someone can shed some light on this :-) Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
January 17, 200323 yr I don't understand your "linux router on end." statement. My setup uses a router in the following fashion:Cable modem ---> Router ---> Switch --> 4 lines --> Computers/Hub to more --> Computers. Are you indicating one of your computer is running Linux and is the router? January 18, 200323 yr Author HiI'm sorry if I was unclear about the router. Though I don't think it has anything to do with my problem as I used this router before I got the third (fourth if you count the router) computer on the LAN. My setup look like thisADSL-modem -> PC running Linux-router -> Switch -> 3 PCs running Win98SE Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
January 18, 200323 yr If your NIC is on a PCI slot with shared IRQ's then heavy IP traffic might be causing IRQ "hogging" on the shared channel. If you can find documentation for your mobo, look to see which PCI slots do not have shared IRQ's and try the NIC on one of those slots. This is just a shot, but it has solved some conflicts that I have experienced before...
January 18, 200323 yr My Soyo Dragon+ shares IRQ11 with the On-Board NIC, On-Board Sound, and Graphics Adapter! It is running an 1800XP AMD processer. At times, the ATC voice, especially if I am listening to both COMS causes the Scenery to jerk!I wish the board manufacturers would quit putting everything on IRQ11 for the On-Boards. I would change the NIC and Sound but they work too good and the sound is great!Just as an aside, I use a NETGEAR router vice using a Computer router! Bill Sieffert
January 24, 200323 yr Author Thank you guys for your input. I looked at the shared IRQ but didn't seem to matter. And then it struck me that the reciever for the cordless mouse that was hogging for me was located just beside the TFT monitor and the power supply. I moved it and the problem disappeared! The first thing that goes blind are the eyes (litteraly translated from swedish but I think you get my drift)Again thanks and have a great weekend! :-) Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
