8X AGP graphicscard on a 4XAGP motherboard

Featured Replies

Before i change my TI4600 graphics card with a GeforceFX 5800 ultra i would like to know if i need to change my motherboard to a 8X AGP.And yes i know there is a ATI9700pro available for less money, but i dont like these cards.Thx OHN

Not necessary! I am using an MSI 4200 128MB 8X in my 4X MOBO.

Most video cards are backwards compatible to older standards. You can run a 8x card in a 4x slot without any troubles. Same is true for most 4x cards in a 2x system. Since my weird motherboard (not many Athlon mobos are like this anyway) only supports 2x AGP, so I gotta run my Radeon 7200 4x in 2x mode. Don't really bother me though, as long as my comp is running and the sim is cranking out above 15fps, i'm fine LOL.
