ATI 9800pro 256mb oR FX5900ultra 256mb for FS2004?

Featured Replies

Looking at at the reviews for these video cards it almost seems like in every benchmark the cards go back and forth, dancing around each other. One map will run one card faster, another map will run the other one. One resolution shows a card faster, another resolution shows the other fast. It makes deciding which is the fastest card for upcoming FS2004 a very hard decision. Will it be 9800pro 256mb with the 8 pipeline card clocked at 380MHz or the 4 pipeline card clocked at 450MHz with a lot of bandwidth be the choice for FS COF. Both priced at $500 makes this a very hard decision to make. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK??????????????????????????????????????????

After reading this morning's news; I've come to the conclusion that benchmarks are worthless. I'm running the 9700 Pro, have been since last September, and I love it. I can count the number of times something strange has happened when running flight sims on one hand. Here's this morning's new news about the benchmarks: http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php...readid=33685665

I read more than one review and only on the basis of what I read I have little doubt I would pick the Nvidia card. Besides the benchmarks I really like Nvidia's superior memory bandwith. But it does not mean something tomorrow might happen and change my mind.On the other hand whether it is worth (for FS2004) spending extra $100 to get 256MB video memory to me is much more difficult question.Michael J.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

That site has been down for a while, I guess. The story is on the front page of www.extremetech.com .
