June 1, 200323 yr Hi: Im upgrading my computer. What video card do you recommend I should buy? (for FS02)...and how much megas should it have? Thanks for help...Jose.
June 1, 200323 yr I just got an ATI 9700pro on friday and I am very happy with it.I upgraded from a gf3 my fs2002 hardware settings went from 1280x1024x32, no-aa, most details set at max running a smooth 22fps with many addons. To 1600x1200x32, 4x-aa 16x-af same detail settingsrunning a smooth 25fps.When I first installed it,I wasnt impressed but then after dnloading new drivers and reading a few posts here at avsim Ive got my system running great. Graphic quality is awesome.I was going to wait for ATI 9800pro 256 or a new Nvidia fx5900 but I decided to save a couple hundred dollars, flightsimming is basically the only gaming software I use and I dont think I'll need a better card till maybe fs2006.happy flyinFloydCYPKAsus A7N8XAMD 2400xp+1 gig ddr 400 ramATI 9700pro
June 1, 200323 yr Floyd; Which drivers are you running now? And which procedure of the many, many opinions out there did you use in installing the new drivers? Which DX are you running.
June 2, 200323 yr Hi BigshotBefore I installed the card I dnloaded the 1002 bios for my mb and the latest nforce2 drv's from nvidia, DX9a and used drive cleaner toclean my registryI'm running the Omega 2.4.43 drv's (was impressed with the performance of the Omega's on my gf3)After reading some posts I got fs to generate a new fs2002.cfg, manually changed to 1600x1200x32, no aa ,fps set to 25, everything else I have maxxed except: no ground shadows,no aircraft shadows, detailed water only (reflective water seems to just kill my fps)and mesh set at 95,Vis set to 90 miles. ATC is set at 33% which seems to be very realistic with MyTraffic. My display settings for Direct3d are: aa=4x, af=16x-preformance, Texture preferance-High Quality,Mipmap detail level-High Quality, Wait for vertical sinc-application preferance,Trueform-always off.I do about 80% of my flying around British Columbia using all of Holger Sandmann's mesh sceneries and my fps is rock solid at 20 to 25fps in all kinds of weather and flying with eaglesoft's beechjetI'm hooked on this aircraft at the moment :-)FloydCYPK
June 2, 200323 yr hello; you don't say what your sys spec's are, so its not easy to recomend. remember fs is cpu dependent so a good processor and lots of ram do wonders. i've a xp1800 [@133fsb] with 1.25 gb ram, and with a goofy gef 4 mx440 w/64 mbDDr i get 23-25 fps[locked] all sliders full 'cept ai 95%. landclass scenery around the northeast. the only slowdown is with the cheyenne's vc. otherwise, good times. tt
June 2, 200323 yr I've got a Dell Dimension XPS T-500 upgraded to a Tualatin 1.2 gHz, 384 megs of ram...Currently have a Diamond Viper Ultra 32 meg video card.For what it's worth, this system runs 2002 quite nicely at 800x600, which works out OK for me. Naturally I'd like to increase performance first over resolution.. but both are nice!Thanks,Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
June 3, 200323 yr I would recommend getting a video card with 128MB at least. An ATI 9500 Pro or better. 9700 Pros are nice and 9800's are good too if your wallet can handle it.
