Flashing Textures w/LCD Monitor

Featured Replies

Just got a Viewsonic 19" VX900. Great picture in FS2K with the exception of terrain textures. They will start flashing when in flight. Anyone else seen/solved this? I've messed around with Ansio and AA, but not much difference in the flashing.Video is a ATI 9700 Pro Radeon w/ Cat. 3.4 drivers. 1 Gig RAMP4 2.8

I have the same monitor, and the same "problem".What we are witnessing is the effects of LCD displays on games. :) The pixel cycle rate isn't quite up to speed with the highly detailed textures the sim is using. The textures we are viewing areLemmie guess - Close up, high res terrain textures flicker. More distant textures shimmer less. Close up autogen trees shimmer like a crazy, but the trees farther away do so less.I've had the monitor for a few months now, and have all but gotten used to it. I wouldn't trade it for the world (unless I had a huge desk and could get a nutzapper like a 24" zillion X zillion resolution CRT). I originally purchased a Samsung 19" LCD, but that was WORSE! The VX900 was the best I found for games at the time. Increased anti-aliasing *might* help it, as it is the sharp difference between colors/brightness which causes the flicker, but chances are you can't tweak it enough. The tradeoff is that normal nighttime textures with the monitor and lights turned down in the room is SPEC-FREAKIN-TACULAR. Plus, no testicular cancer risks. :)Today's purchase - a Radeon 9800. eBay'ing my Ti4200. -Greg

you may want to see if their are instalation driver updates for your moniter. I have a dell 18' flat screen moniter and had to install installation software to update my drivers. I recommend you checking with your manufacturer's website they should have something there. :)
