Disabling Windoze Messenger In XP

Featured Replies

Go to run and type gpedit.msc then.... user config>admin template>windows components>windows messenger it has 2 options, "do not allow windows messenger to be run" and "do not automatically start windows messenger initially"

Interesting. Thanks for this find.

It's worth mentioning that the Group Policy editor (gpedit.msc) isn't available in WinXP Home. Doug

Update! Thank's to Gosta, This is the correct path,Start Menu/Settings/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services. Scroll down to 'Messenger' and under 'Startup Type', select 'Disabled'.

For some users of XP (any version) when they remove windows messenger or just disable it from starting up automatically will experience a great slow down when launching Outlook express, the fix as outlined in the following link works every time:http://www.tweakxp.com/tweakxp/display.asp?id=108Take care.
